That single thought crossed my head when I caught the first light of this morning on the mesa.
It felt sweet - not the kind of sweet that comes from some nice new stuff, but the kind of sweet that comes from years of wading through internal & external shit simply to get where you are, to be who you are without compromise.
Once in a while you have to stand & simply give thanks.
I'm sure everyone knows there was a nasty hate crime last week. That garbage exists... it will always be there in the back of our heads. It can happen to anyone, whether in a small town or urban area. And that doesn't stop us from living, from being who we are. Maybe the trick is to keep a smile in your soul, regardless of what life throws your direction.
Anyway, I wanted to do this thread just to say thanks to the GLBT people who may be reading it. Thanks for being you. If you've had to face adversity & look it in the eye simply to get where you are, thank you.
For those of you who are not gay, but have made our journeys in life easier through your compassion & friendship, thank you.
To people like the honorable Coretta Scott King who gave a voice not only to African-Americans, but to the GLBT community, despite popular sentiment, thank you.
To people who took a chance on us when the rest of the world turned its back, thank you.
So yeah, I'm gay. To the marrow.
Just another day. And it feels good.

…and I'm so glad you're comfortable with who you are. Too many people (gay or straight) aren't and never will be.
That shooting you referred to really makes my blood boil. Religion is a boil on humanity's ass.

The Lounge is always a great place to be and I always feel I'm among friends here, moreso than a lot of the people I've met offline.
So the feeling is entirely mutual.
I'm glad that you are happy with yourself; you have every right to be and to expect to be.

..."a smile in your soul..." great image. I love it. We are who we are, in the midst of the chaos.
We live in a world of great sorrow and great joy...and although it seems our task is to understand it all, I would argue, like you, that it's not. It's really about being as present as we can be, IN the moment and giving thanks for what we DO have.
I stand with you, in friendship. :pals:

Sorry, I can't help having fun with autofill today! Sometimes I feel giddy and I just have to go with it.
On a more serious note, I am glad you are glad. It is good to reach a certain place/age in life where you can say, "Here I am , take it or leave it". For the less highly evolved, we can always hope that they begin to see the light. As for me, I know too many wonderful gay and lesbian people to not support their struggle for dignity and equality. My friend is gay, and that's OK.
P.S. Thanks to my dad here for all his discussions about bigotry and evil in the world. It always made sense to me. I miss him.

Words that need to be spoken now and then.
On my college campus, we're dealing with diversity issues right now (I'm a member of the Gay-Straight Alliance and we've been dealing with negativity lately). Seems as though the loudest people are the most ignorant and narrow-minded. We need more of the progressive thinkers to get louder about tolerance and acceptance. It's not enough just to think progressively - we have to DO something! :yourock:

I'm not gay, but I still struggle with issues of self acceptance. I think these issues cross all gender/orientation lines. Anytime someone can be happy with who they are, all the way to the marrow, it's a beautiful thing.

The world would be a peaceful place if everyone was happy with who they are. For what is hate and bigotry but the attempt to make one's self feel more superior by denegrating others?
Doesn't gay mean happy, anyway? :hi:

I slit my wrists because I was gay (what a stupid reason for something so serious!), I've been the victim of anti gay violence several times (ask me about the court cases some time), I worked hard for gay rights.
And in the end, I regret none of it - maybe some of what I did (even the bad stuff - using it as an educational tool) meant that some gay/lesbian/trangendered kid could say what you said : "Just another day. And it feels good." And if so... it was all worth it.
Khash.
