CSS Support Could Be Internet Explorer's Weakest Link |
|
http://www.microsoft-watch.com/article2/0,1995,1776937,00.asp*sigh* A number of Web developers and customers have maintained that partial CSS2 compliance doesn't provide cross-platform interoperability and other benefits that full compliance does. ADVERTISEMENT
"Now that sites like Google Maps have shown how much Web designers can do with CSS and DHTML , it would be a shame for Microsoft to ignore CSS2 in IE 7.0," said James Thiele, a Seattle-based consultant and trainer.
Robert McLaws, president of Interscape Technologies, is among those who say they are disappointed at the initial word that full CSS2 support won't be coming with the browser refresh.
"Full CSS2 support is the one thing that every developer has been asking for. CSS2 is a great standard and, at some point, Microsoft will probably support it fully. But, the longer they take to do it, the more they alienate developers," McLaws said. Why do people continue supporting microsoft?

"It seems to me that if Microsoft is going to bring out IE 7.0, then it should be up to all the latest standards," said another user, who requested anonymity. Did I just hear that 7.0 already has a big problem?

2. I'd say the bigger problem is the XSS support |
|
Cross-Site-Scripting attacks are practically SOP with IE. It's a grade a security hazard.
(Ok, Opera is almost as bad)

4. People refuse to learn anything different. |
|
The usual "___ isn't ready" is just empty rhetoric.
Heck, too many end users have problems with Windows usability, and WIndows is meant to be "easy to use".

5. If it doesn't have CSS2 from the start, it should be scrapped and |
|
written again from scratch.
Eventually M$ will lose the browser-war when functionality is King

6. Microsoft's goal is to dominate. They will use their leverage. |
|
And, one day, people are going to get tired of programming if/then code for 8 different browser types.
There should be a standard. But Microsoft wants it all. And when Microsoft can't even make their new versions backward compatible (which is deliberate; they know people use emulators and other things... they want people to upgrade and be locked in), you know they're ran by a bunch of selfish, greedy toddlers. If people knew how MS truly operates, VERY few people would consider Gates to be anything but genuinely altruistic. His whole history proves the contrary.
Besides, the only way to be genuinely altruistic is to be anonymous. Gates is such an egocentric opportunist, he'd never be so humble.

8. problem is, as a developer, I HAVE to program for IE |
|
no choice. it is the standard. when 90% of the population embraces something else (they never will) then i'll make the switch
it is shipped with EVERY PC. therefore, it ain't going nowhere any time soon.
if it doesn't work in IE, I can't touch it

10. Exactly. It's the agency standard, and 98% of my visitors use it |
|
If I could get away with only developing to Gecko and Opera, I would. But then I would cut off almost my entire audience. Since I'm employed by the gubmint, my sites have to be available to EVERYONE, so I have no choice

The xmlhttprequest object. http://ajaxoffice.sourceforge.net/http://www.writely.com/http://numsum.com/http://meebo.com/http://www.rememberthemilk.com/It won't be very long until my sisters complete computing experience can be done within Firefox running on Ubuntu. In 20 years I predict Microsoft will be XBox only. Start the Microsoft death knell counter.
