I've never before been a proponent of ignorance is bliss, but in this case, I think I'm very fortunate to be out of the loop.

What am I talking about? Well, I'm not sure.

Here's what I know. I come to the Lounge to read matcom's news, to bitch about my current job and garner support in my quest for new employment, to think up band names for beetwasher, to throw my support behind Angelina Jolie vs. Godzilla, to give hugs when something sad happens in someone's real life, to look at pictures of cats and babies, to tell people what to have for dinner or what they should do this afternoon, to get movie recommendations, and flirt with DS1.

Here's what I don't know. Which DUers are sleeping together, which DUers broke up with each other, which DUers said what about which other DUers, where the xxxxxx xxxxxxx is, who's in which clique, who's in, who's out, and all things of the like.

I hear whispers. I see clues. But mostly it all goes right over my head. I'm pretty much out of it, and lucky as hell as far as I can tell. I'm almost always nice to everyone, and everyone's almost always nice to me. And I would miss this place if, for any reason, it were no longer here.

Of course none of this means that my experiences in the Lounge or the relationships I've built here are superficial. They're very real. And, as always, I'm grateful to all who have shown me true friendship.

I guess, since I don't know what I'm talking about anyway, I will shut up now and go back into my hole.

to a specific thread, I think that it's a serious issue that people post personal jokes that are demeaning to specific people. I didn't know that was an inside joke. I could have easily joined in making fun of someone without realizing it. And I wonder how many other times I chimed in on a post not realizing it was related to some behind-the-scenes drama. Something may look like an innocent or off the wall question, but it's really meant to be used against someone else. How would I know? That kind of thing scares and upsets me.
