Cleaning Up Fingerprint Powder



Q Our home was broken into, and the police dusted for prints. How do I get fingerprint powder out of carpeting?

A Oh my, this is certainly a new question for me! First, vacuum the area thoroughly with a brush attachment. After you've lifted as much of the powder as you can, combine 1/4 teaspoon of a mild liquid dishwashing detergent and 1 cup of lukewarm water. Spray it on an area to dissolve remaining marks (be sure to test first on a hidden spot). Use a bit of warm water to rinse, then blot area dry with a paper towel.
