Shortly before world renowned diving pioneer Jacques Cousteau's death in 1997, he rated the Pacific Northwest as the second best diving destination in the world.

The abundance of marine life in the waters of Vancouver Island is due to temperate water conditions and the geographic diversity of the coast. Upwelling at the edge of the continental shelf during the summer months brings nutrient-rich waters to the surface. The many inlets, coastal reefs and thousands of islands also create a diversity of currents and a multitude of habitats. There are numerous wrecks in the area and due to the Canadian law of don't remove anything, you have much to see.

In fact, Pacific Northwest is home to the world's tallest anemone and many of the world's largest species - including the giant Pacific octopus, which can weigh up to 600 lbs.
