Favorite album & song by Yes?
"Your Move" got me thinking - that's a great song, even if you can hear "Give Peace A Chance" during the chorus.

However my favorite studio album would probably have to be "Close To The Edge". My favorite song is either the title track, or "Starship Trooper".

Oh, and "Yessongs" rules. They are clearly a live band, even though their studio albums are also amazing.

Discuss.

2. Tough choice for best album
I'd probably go for "Close to the Edge" as my fav Yes album.

For best song, the choice is clear: Mood for a Day played a large part in inspiring me to take up classical guitar.

5. Yeah, I might have to go with Close to the Edge for album...
But I am personally a huge fan of Tales from Topographic Oceans, so that might be a close one. As for favorite song... That might be "Siberian Khatru" or "Close to the Edge". "Roundabout" is just so great though...

6. What's your favorite song from TFTO?
Mine is either "The Revealing Science Of God" or "The Ancient".

But I think all 4 tracks drag a bit in some parts, keeping it from being my favorite album.

I thought CTTE was the greatest 20-minute song they ever wrote, and the perfect blend of many different genres of music.

I remember Rick Wakeman (who HATES TFTO) and Jon Anderson (who LOVES TFTO) both agreed a long time ago that they had enough material for a 50-60 minute CD, but since CDs didn't exist at the time, they could either cram it into a 40-minute record or drag it out across 2 40-minute records.

Since the "drag time" is around 5 minutes per song (for me, anyway), I think it would've been perfect as a 60-minute CD, or even 60 minutes on an album coupled with some other live material.

7. I love old YES, but the album "Talk" is my favorite newer YES, 2 years ago
I saw them in COlumbus OH. RICK (10 keyboards) WAKEMAN was with them!!!! (If you're wondering why that's so cool to me, I'm a professional pianist/keyboardist/percussionist)

A band called "Porcupine Tree" opened for them, and they rocked the fuckin' house.

11. Yes. (pun intended) "Your Move" and "The Yes Album" are it.
The Presence of "Starship Trooper" tips the balance in the "album" category.

15. "Starship Trooper," particularly Steve Howe's "Wurm" finale.
"The Yes Album" would have to be the favorite album.

17. The Yes Album
It's got "All good People," "Starship Trooper," and "The Clap."

And, yes, seeing them live was better than listening to any of their albums, even as late as 2003.
