Oh, Lord, here it comes.
Bad calls by officals. Detailed analyses. Excuses one after the other. Criticism of commentators.

And even one bizarre and utterly inexplicable contention that the Steelers shouldn't feel proud of having won five super Bowls because, unlike the 49ers, they also lost one some time in the past (I'm still shaking my head in disbelief about that one).

Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to a novel concept: Steelers 21, Seahawks 10. End of story.

(I did really like that razzle-dazzle reverse-and-then-throw-long play, though.)

1. Yeah, the game threads will go on, into the night and probably
for the next day or so. Whatever. I didn't watch. I could care less. Whatever gets their rocks off, I say, Live and let live.

It's just a game, afterall. heheheh. ;)

3. Yup. Just a game. I did watch it, but all I was interested in was seeing
good football, if there was any to be had. (I played football until my brains fell out when I was young, but never became a "fan" of any particular team. Actually, I could not watch football on TV for years, because it made me want to go out and play, long after I was not capable of doing that anymore.)

Jesus, I wish I hadn't typed that; now I'm going to start missing the old days. Beleive it or not, I was a helluva good athlete when I was young and unbroken. But the days of doing that stuff are LONG gone.

5. LOL! you played until your "brains fell out" ?! Great image. heheh.
yes, those days are long gone, and now you get to focus on deeper things, like the quality of your HEART. That's the benefit of getting older, I think. Our bodies change, yes, but hopefully as we age and grow in wisdom, we deepen our connection with the eternal part of ourselves which remains UNBROKEN, no matter what. There is so much more to who we are than our bodies, imo.

Do you know what I mean?

6. Yes, I do. But there was some primal pleasure in the grace of a
well-caught football, or the scoop-and-throw of a ground ball (I was a second baseman in baseball), or the merciless smash of a volleyball into an empty space on the other side of the net.

Ah, but I still have pool. have been shooting a lot lately, and getting someof the old stuff back.

But again, yes, I do knwo what you mean. Especially when you think about a place like DU, where you can see how the "quality of your heart" can help other people feel good. That's every bit as satisfying as dropping the nine ball in the side pocket.

Thanks for the perspective. You think well.

9. Yeah, people do need to have something to talk about, so it's OK.
But the #2 thing I appreciate about having my own business, rather than working in an office like I used to, is not having to put up with the incessant sports prattle every Monday morning.

Especially during the college-basketball tournaments. The last thing i'd ever be interested would be college basketball.

(In case you're wondering, the #1 thing I don't miss is flying on business trips.)

14. Is Dick Button still around? If so, I won't be watching any skating.
The single worst announcer/commentator in any sport. Ever.

Just kidding..

Dick Button will be doing commentary for NBC during the men's competition. He also will be doing a show along with Mary Carillo and other people for USA Network about the various skating competitions at the Winter Olys from 6:00pm-7:00pm EST from before the primetime viewing on NBC.

Yeah, he can be "over the top" with his comments about any skater (American or other) sometimes, but I hope you realize that "Uncle Dick" (his sometime affectionate nickname) among fans of figure skating as a two-time Olympic Gold Medal winner (1948 and 1952) and the first American man to win an OGM in figure skating, speaks from his heart about the sport that he has "loved so well" for well over 60 years.

If you had the chance to ask any former or present premier American figure skater in any of the four disciplines, I have no doubt that they would say if "Uncle Dick" or more correctly, "Mr. Button", thought or thinks something in my program or programs need to be better or upgraded, they would take his advice very seriously.

Not to beat a dead horse, but FYI, Dick Button was the first man in Olympic skating history to complete a double axel in the 1948 competition and the first man to complete a triple jump, a triple loop in the 1952 competition. Dick Button is also credited with the invention of the flying camel spin, which to this day is a required element in every short program in ladies, mens and pairs skating.

Dick Button is an icon in the figure skating world, and if he doesn't like "pulling your foot over your head" (ala the Bielmann spin) or "terrible back/foot position on that layback", IMO he's totally justified.

Mr. Button has been there, done that, and won the whole thing....

Redstone, it's totally obvious, I do adore Dick Button.

I cringe thinking that this year, 2006, might be the last time I'm privileged enough to listen to him describe his interpretations about this sport that he was an integral part of bringing to the attention of the American public since 1962.

Dick Button has historical perspective, which is something that is sorely lacking in the US right now.

whose second cousin's college roommate's step-grandmother died of cancer, and somehow said bobsledder persevered to achieve his Olympic dream.

20. Oh, Lord, here it comes.
Complaints about "vote fraud." Charges of bias by election officials. Criticism of the Supreme Court.

And even one bizarre and utterly inexplicable contention that the winning candidate shouldn't feel he has a mandate because he, unlike other winners, finished second in the popular vote.

Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to a novel concept: Bush 271 EV, Gore 268 EV. End of story.

21. Apples and oranges
You're talking about ballots — a quantifiable entity.

Sports officials make judgements.

There is no logical connection between the two.

23. But that's now it works, Redstone. I,personally, have never forgotten
a fumble that was made by one Jerry Rice during a playoff game against the Packers which would have ended the game had it been called a fumble..which in hindsight the refs admitted it was. But this was the year before they brought back review so Packers fans everywhere were screwed, and we haven't forgotten. And then there was that 4th and 26 play and....well, I could go on. ;)
