Last season my goal was not to watch a single pitch. A very difficult task since I work in sports statistics and frequent Las Vegas sportsbooks. I managed for a couple months then job requirements consulting one particular sportsbook during the day did me in. At least I didn't watch a single half inning all year. That would have been truly unbearable, witnessing group loitering for 8 or 10 consecutive minutes.

Crossing the border into Canada in the wee hours, on our way to SoccerBowl 1981. …I only have to pay attention to it for a few months every four years. I simply don't have enough interest in sports to become a real fan who watches games multiple times a week every week, year after year. I would have to spend less time posting on message boards and less time playing computer games to make that happen, and there's simply some things I won't give up.
