Mom told me on the phone that Pittsburgh City Schools have 2 hr delay
Not for any weather, but merely because they know that people are celebrating and they want to give parents and teachers a break

2. When the Rams won in 2000,
A ton of St. Louis schools got the day off. Probably for the best--no one would've been there anyway.

But if we find out you've been smoking Mary Jane, we'll report you to CPS. After all, it's about the children."

5. But don't give them a break for non-sports occasions
Stupid brickheads.

Doh, my team won, I'm going out and spend all my paycheck on shit that advertises my team and beer then I'm going to talk about it for months while my neighbors die in Iraq, my government rapes me and gives the money to the guy with the big mansion, I can't get no health care, my car insurance is out of sight, and my kids are as stupid as me. And we voted for that Bush guy, he had a baseball team.

Stupid brickheads.

7. Dumbasses.
I bet they won't close down the schools when a Pittsburgher wins the nobel or a pulitzer or their symphony orchestra wins a grammy.

Stupid fucks.

9. Where did I say that you are brutes?

I said you had a symphony orchestra.

I just said that you - and I will extend this to the entire USA - will shut down becuase a sports team wins, but never shut down for any other big success by any intellectual or art institution. And I find it sad, this constant worshipful emphasis on sports to the near detriment of everything else. It's a sad comment on the state of the mind of America.

Especially considering that the symphony orchestra, the museums, and the intellectuals of the colleges are actual Pittsburgh properties, and the sports team is owned by some distant rich fuck or set thereof, and has no actual ownership by the community that so tellingly decided to shut down in celebration.

11. Mr Rooney the owner of the Steelers....lives in the North Side
and walks to every game.

His dad (a heavy gambler) bought the Steelers for $2500 eons ago and the Rooney family (a Pittsburgh family) has owned them ever since.

The Pirates are owned by a distant rich guy.

The Penguins are owned by Mario Lemieux and I think some investers but Mario in the Pittsburgh suburbs.

10. I think it is stupid to close, or delay schools, for a football team.
Edited on Tue Feb-07-06 06:57 AM by MrsGrumpy
And I am a football fan. :hi: Even the Green Bay didn't do that...and they OWN the team.

12. And Green Bay has never set itself on fire because of a win, either.
Not that I can recall.

18. THANK YOU.
I don't know if I can go straight to calling them "dumbasses", but you can really tell what America has become when they delay school because a ball team won a game. Especially when you consider the newsworthy things that may have warranted a delay/early dismissal.

Absolutely ridiculous.

15. Torching a couch and Subway sign isn't "burning down the town."
It's stupid, drunken celebratory vandalism by college students on a very small scale, but it's hardly the stuff of pillaging.
