1. Hope you feel better soon, nytemare. The worst pain...
that I ever had in my life was from an earache.

5. Flying with a cold is the worst!
I didn't fly this time, but twice I have flown with them. Once, I thought my eardrums would burst. Tears were streaming down my face. Both times, my ears were popped afterwards for almost a month.

Broken bones, torn acl, I didn't shed a tear, but on that plane, my eyes were faucets.

11. I'm glad that you saw the doctor. I hope he/she was able...
to help you with the pain in addition to helping to heal you. :(

12. TY, maybe the decongestant will work.
The hot sock seems to help a bit, too.

27. That is the worst.
I flew across the country with a bad headcold, and I really did think my eardrum was bursting. Never again. The only thing that hurt worse was when I had a scratched cornea. I hope you feel better soon

28. TY!
Glad your eardrum didn't burst on that flight! The scratched cornea sounds painful. Ouch!

I have really narrow eardrums, so I suppose that might make flying worse. Probably not as much inner ear to regulate the pressure.

2. If it continues, you might want to get it checked out
cuz you could have an ear infection, which would need antibiotics. Have you had a sinus problems recently? A friend of mine had the exact same thing happen, it started as a bad cold, then developed into a sinus infection, which developed into an ear infection. Bummer, all around.

Wishing you well.... hang in there.

4. I went to the doc today.
He gave me antibiotics and pseudoephedrine, which he told me to break in half.

I have been putting one of those sock looking things with rice in it in the microwave, then leaning my ear on it.

I can't tell you how many broken bones I have had, but this is more miserable.

7. I think the hardest part is not knowing how long the pain will last
After awhile it seems like it will last forever.

8. I feel like my head is closed in.
I am sure it will go away. These things are just part of the pain that is part of what we call life!

And bitching about it is also a part of that life!!

14. Amen with the kidney stones!
I've had bad earaches and a long history of kidney stones (4, count them, 4 lithotripsies in 10 years). I'll take an earache any ol' time!

Is that where they use the sound to blast em?

I had a kidney infection once, kills the back. That was a few years back.

Did you have to use one of those little filters?

16. I saw something on Discovery Health about a guy that lived through
something like that. He was driving, and a piece kicked up off the road, went through his head and he survived.

Amazing.

18. I had one of those a year or two ago
WOW, did that ever hurt. No wonder kids make such a fuss. When my eardrum finally ruptured I was such a relief.

I wasn't psyched about it rupturing, but it was a lot better than the alternative.

Hope you feel better soon.

30. You hear a rushing rushing noise and feel some odd contractions
(I have no idea waht muscles there are in the ear, or what else might cause the contractions) and the pain susbsides almost immediately. YOu get a fair amount of dranage from the ear because of this though.

The eardrums do heal back up--tell me, did your's burst overnight by any chance? It's a bummer when it does, but the relief from the pressure (which causes most of the pain) canbe knd of worth it.

Hope you're feeling better.

31. Mine didn't burst.
I am feeling a little better. I went to work today, albeit begrudgingly.

What was your hearing like after yours burst? That must have been weird.

I just remember both times I flew with a cold, for 3 weeks after my ears wouldn't pop. Everything sounded like I was underwater. Then, it just cleared up, and I was astounded that I could hear normally.

:hi:

21. A good thing to do...
Is to apply a hot compress to it. When I had an ear infection, I used a hairdryer. It sounds strange, but it worked for me.

I have been using one of those socky rice filled things. It seems to help some.

22. Earache, My Eye!
Edited on Mon Feb-06-06 11:20 PM by Benfea
Sorry, but there's a comedic metal/alternative band from the late 80s/early 90s called Scatterbrain that I really liked, and the above is one of their song titles. The post title doesn't really represent my sentiments, I just relished the opportunity to make a really obscure music reference.
