Name something mean you did that you do regret. |
|
Have you ever done something mean and cruel that you absolutely do regret?

1. My sister had a bad habit of borrowing my clothes |
|
she's just enough bigger than me that they'd come back stretched out and ruined. I put a lock on my door and she broke it to take more of my clothes, so I piled all of her clothes up on her bed and dumped a gallon of bleach on them.
It was not an appropriate reaction to what she was doing and I regreted it almost immediately.

she had no right to borrow your clothes without permission.

the person it wound up punishing was my Dad, since he had to buy her new stuff.
I never did get her to stop using my stuff without permission until I moved out.

4. As a kid making fun of other kids |
|
Heavyset kids or the kids that were just a little different and in the rear of the pecking order. I really have it in now for cruel and mean adults, a.k.a bullys. Maybe I'm trying to make up for being such a cruel brat.

7. I once allowed some kids to tease another kid on a ski trip |
|
Edited on Mon Feb-06-06 03:14 PM by mdmc
the teased kid killed himself a couple weeks after the ski trip. I wished he had killed those stupid jocks. I wish I had said something to these jocks. I thought about beating their asses while on the ski trip, but they were "cool", and they introduced me to some hot chicks. I was "cool", too.
I regret this very much...

she had very long hair that she was remiss in brushing and wouldn't let anyone else touch but me and wouldn't even consider getting cut. Our mother asked me to cut it off so I put her hair in a pony tail, told her I was going to trim her ends and then cut off the whole tail.
I did what my mother wanted but, to this day, that sister doesn't fully trust me and I'm really sorry that I betrayed her that way.

I'm not sure I'd trust you either.

12. It's even more complicated because |
|
until about a year before that incident, I had lived with my grandparents for most of my life (stepfather didn't want me around) and I was desperate for approval and acceptance from my mother. Took me a lot of years to realize what I had done.

11. Dated someone for four months that I wasn't really attracted to. |
|
Edited on Mon Feb-06-06 03:25 PM by Radical Activist
I've since learned that women apparently do this a lot so they don't have to be alone. For me, it was just a mistake that I came to regret. She fell hard and I was never really into her. She gave me an expensive gift for my birthday a couple weeks before we broke up that I kept.

13. Nah. I've enjoyed EVERY SINGLE TIME I was mean to someone, and |
|
never regretted any of them.
Of cousre, the fact that every one of them deserved what they got might indicate that the stuff I did wasn't actually "mean," maybe?
So I might be disqualified.

19. "forgive me bikewriter for I have sinned" |
|
Well I am not Catholic but it seemed appropriate since it's a confession thread. As a kid I said something mean about a friends sister and then denied it when confronted. It ended up hurting someone else deeply because she heard me say it and I lied about it and she knew it. I have NEVER forgotten that and I still think about this girl (woman now) a lot. I know I've done worse but for some reason this one just haunts me.

25. Yes I know where she lives |

I've tried apologizing, explaining what a cowardly thing I'd done and how I wish I hadn't. (we were 14 at the time) I saw her about 10 years ago at a church thing. She was still hurt and still rememebered it. I believe she felt betrayed and I just have to live with the fact that I screwed up. It was a powerful lesson for me and I can honestly say that I have never done that again. Sheesh, you'd think I'd forget about it by now but I really hurt myself when I hurt her. It is always there to remind me why I want to own up asap.

When I was in College I helped get a teacher fired, one who arguably deserved it, but who did not deserve the public humiliation of what went down. Later, I realized that my cohorts and I had done the dirty work for other staffers who wanted this particular teacher out of the way for their own reasons.
I also regret childhood cruelty that I was part of. Sigh.
However, right now I am doing my darnedest to get someone I work with fired. I've decided my sympathy does not extend to enduring the chaos and incompetence this employee, who is not a bad person, is causing me and others. If that's mean, so be it.
