SNL
Was once a satirical show for grown ups and now it's a sappy show aimed for teenage mentality. What happened?

1. Maybe you got a little older and see more things as teenaged
or maybe SNL just really sucks ;-)

2. Tina Fey became head writer
I'm sorry, but she just plain sucks.

And their musical guests have completely blown goats over the last five years. There's no way in hell today's SNL would have ever booked 70s-era Elvis Costello, for example. Fr fucksake, the music is now sponsored by BUDWEISER. Tame, safe, uninteresting-- just like the beer.

3. Yes, Wayne's World and "Two Wild and Crazy Guys" was really adult humor.
Please. :eyes:

There's still some good political satire on the show today.

7. Well, I probably was talking more about the original 75-80 show
I should have pointed that out.

8. You mean Samurai Chef and the Male Prostitute?
I still think the show has always had some teenage humor.

5. I find if really erratic
This week's show with Steve Martin was nightmarishly unfunny, as was most of the Peter Sarsgaard one.

And yet a recent episode with Alec Baldwin really cracked me up, as did one with Jack Black (who I don't even like). I enjoy Weekend Update, and find Tina Fey very funny.

6. Their problem these days is that they're too topical.
Watching re-runs of the "old" SNL, one still laughs at the jokes because the performers and writers didn't date themselves with too many topical references.

Nowadays, the writers and performers are, on the main, just taking potshots at current celebrities and trends, which limits the appeal of the show. One would have to read Rolling Stone or Entertainment Weekly all day and actually give a shit about pop culture to find the jokes funny.

9. Horatio Sanz.
It is impossible for him to get through a sketch without cracking himself up.

The difference between him (and practically all of the men on the show but Darrell Hammond) and brilliant performers like Maya Rudolph is that Maya, Darrell, et al actually act a part.

Horatio and Jimmy Fallon are just dumbasses doing impressions in a bar or something.

I guess the other extreme is boring people that won't take chances, but (aside from the boring) the show doesn't have the problem of people not willing to make asses of themselves.
