Is there any beer worse than Budweiser and Bud Light?
Edited on Mon Feb-06-06 07:12 PM by Radical Activist
Really, the stuff is disgusting. The last time I had one I couldn't finish it. I wanted to barf. I have had some pretty nasty cheap beer (Lonestar comes to mind) but none as bad as Budweiser products. Is there anything worse out there?

I hang out at an Irish Pub. He takes minutese to draw your Guiness pint and he'll draw a shamrock on the head. Or your initials, sailboat, middle finger, NY Giants logo, et cetera depending on who he's drawing the pint for.

26. There are many, many worse beers.
For instance, there is a Busch brewery in Tampa, FL. Even under ideal circumstances, Busch is cheaper than Budweiser and tastes like it, but when you take a beer like that and brew it in a tropical climate… well, the less said the better.

Otherwise, there's a fairly large number of brands of beer that are even cheaper than Bud (many are mentioned in this thread), and I can assure you, they taste even worse.

These are all high octane malt liquors mainly sold in 24 ounce cans, usually in the "not so nice" part of town.

Olde English 800 actually ain't all that bad, and Colt 45 is good enough. If it is cheap, potent, and in an oversized jug, I've tried it.

To anyone on the east coast, do they still sell Haffenreffer Private Stock in the 64 oz. jug?

I don't think Budwiser is bad for a commercial American lager. It is much better than Keystone, Milwaukee's Worst, er, Best, Iron City, and a number of other minor leaguers.

Beer is a vast world, though, and though I drink my microbrews, I don't touch much in that American lager arena.

Light beer is the abomination. It is a pathetic joke.

43. Interesting fact about the mega-brewers
Pretty much all the mega breweries make the same product, just vary the amount of certain ingredients. For example, Budweiser makes Bud, Bud Light, Natty Light, etc.

A person I knew used to work for Bud, and they told me how if a brew of Bud got messed up somehow, they'd just relabel it Natty Light instead of flushing it down the sewer. I forget what malt liquor Bud makes but if the Natty got messed up it became that. Since each brew was thousands of barrels, it was quite an expense to lose the product, thus the relabeling.

57. Well
Its a little more complicated than that. It is very hard for a "batch" to get screwed up. They don't take bad bud light and sell it as natty light. Natty light uses far cheaper products. Bud puts its best hops into Bud and Bud light and "inferior" for other bud products. The malt product is very different.

56. A question for you and YES, there are many beers worse than Bud.
Are you comparing Bud and Bud Light to all beers or just other macro/mass produced beers.

As far as the mass produced beers, I prefer Bud to MGD, Miller High Life, and Coors. I prefer Bud Light to Coors Light. I like Amstel way better than Bud Light.

You can't really compare a good micro brew to a mass brew. I'm an Oregon beer guy (love those cascade hops), but if Portland Brewing or Deshuttes had to mass produce my favorites the quality would go down too.

There are also some very bad micros that are way worse than Bud and Bud Light.

Pearl bought Lone Star Beer, then bought Jax (remember Jax?). But now Miller brews both "Texas" beers. Check out the Opinionated Beer Page:

The San Antonio Museum of Art is in the Lone Star Brewery that closed when Prohibition started. Worth a visit--as are many things in that city:

65. Why are there so many horrible mass produced American beers?
I've tried to find a decent domestic beer so I could drink cheaply when I go out to the bar but the best I could find was Miller and that ain't saying much. Why do people put up with such sub-par booze? My uncle lost a bet to a co-worker last week (the prize was a 6 pack of their choice) so he asked the guy what kind of beer does he want (figuring it would be Guinness, Sam Adams etc) and the guy said he just wanted a 6 pack of Bud!?! Of all the beers in the world that you could get a free six pack of and you pick Bud???

69. One word: Prohibition.
Before prohibition, there were a lot of great American beers. But all the breweries shut down and, when they reopened, they developed new recipes based on cheapness and mass-producability, rather than taste. Those few that tried to make quality beers were run out of business by the low-cost manufacturers, until the microbrew craze ushered in a new era of tasty American beers.

It's titty beer, sold to 21-34 year old males who see the titties on the screen, turn their caps around backwards and buy foul-tasting swill. I don't understand how it works, but this seems to be what happens.

71. Well
I think all of you are on crack. :sarcasm:

Bud and Bud Light are by far superior to any other American beer in that class......In my humble opinion of course!

But live in St. Louis, and around here 80% of the people you see out in a bar are drinking one of these two....not just guys with their hats backwards at strip clubs! :eyes:

Go to Colorado and the same goes for Coors, go to Milwaukee the same for Miller. Beer taste is very subjective...

for instance, I think Miller Lite tastes funky and watered down, but Bud Light to me tastes pretty good...but I enjoy light beer, probably because I drink quite a few beers when I do drink and darker beers dont allow me to do that without puking, although if I am just having one or two I will sometimes opt for Becks or an occasional Guiness...and I can see why people dont like light beer and enjoy darker beers with more 'taste'...It depends on the person and their "goal" if you know what I mean.

If I had my choice of beer to drink it would be Amstel Light, but at 8 dollars a six pack compared to 14 dollars a case for Bud Light...you get the idea.

The worst beers IMO are Hamms, Schaefer and Heineken :puke:

:toast:

73. Wow. This thread got popular
I hope the a-holes at Budweiser see it. Some people won't buy a shitty product no matter how many clever ads you have.

75. Iron City!
My brother and I were drinking Iron City during the Super Bowl because we figured it was good luck, but honestly, the stuff tastes the way my alcoholic uncle's house smells.

76. mass produced american beer is swill.
Made with corn (or rice) as adjuncts, its all crap. I've never been able to drink any of it without getting a headache before I finish the second one.

Give me a Sam Adams anyday, thats good american beer, made with malt, hops and water. Don't need anything else.

As for Corona, if it was good beer you wouldn't need to put fruit in it to make it drinakable.
