Do you cover the toilet seat in public restrooms? |
|
I do this, out of habit, with toilet paper. However my preferred option is using my own toilet.
But sometimes it's not possible (like during 8-hour shifts at work).
So what do you do?
And for the more knowledgable DUers, could you really contract nasty diseases if you don't?

1. actually walked out of restroom with paper cover |
|
coming out of my skirt....worse than toilet paper...but someone said..."hey...I didn't think anyone used those!"
Good friend got a strange form of mononucleosis that put her down for 6 months...passed by urine. Docs told her it was from public restrooms...so for those germophobics.. use paper towel to open the door when you leave.

2. Telephones, doorknobs and other such surfaces |
|
that have been touched by unwashed hands are the most likely places to pick up germs - that and in enclosed spaces with coughers and sneezers.
Always wash your hands after shaking with someone! Especially do not touch any of these things and then touch your eyes, nose, mouth or other mucuos membranes.
Kitchens tend to have more germs than bathrooms.

4. I don't cover the seat but I won't use one that's wet |
|
I don't believe that some tissue-thin toilet paper will protect anyone from anything that can be passed thru fluids but maybe I'm mistaken. I do know lots of women who "hover" rather than actually sit on a public toilet seat. I just don't have that kind of stamina.

11. Because of those "hovering" females the seats are often wet |

*grml*
And for those who cover the toilet seats with paper: Please pick it all up when it falls to the floor.

I use paper towels though, because they are thicker & don't have static cling. I also use paper towels to turn on the faucet & open the door.

6. I did in the Philly airport |
|
And then the fuckin' toilet flushed automatically, twice, while I was "doing my business" and like to shot me up outta da stall like a fuckin' Roman Candle! (So much for "sanitation"... at least I did't have to wipe my own ass.)

8. Yes, if I'm sitting to do my business |
|
And I'll wipe down the seat first to get rid of any moisture that might be there beforehand. I don't want it soaking through after all. x( I also use a paper towel (or tissue) to handle the faucets, and the door handle when leaving the restroom.

10. It is my opinion that paper ass-gaskets |
|
are more a mental soother than an actual barrier to bacteria.
If someone has splashed the seat prior to you sitting down, you will be sitting on a wet ass-gasket.

13. No, never. I also believe that most hygienic concerns are slightly |
|
hysterical. If the immune system has no chance to get some exercise it will never function properly. And if I saw somebody washing his hands after he shook hands with me I would be higly offended.
