I got rid of every last LP (33rpm record) I had this weekend
Some where over 30 years old. No more lp's, a few cassettes, even my CD collection is getting smaller while my digital collections are growing.
Do you think within the next 20 years, maybe less we can have a chip installed in us that would store mass media? Songs, birthdays, names, addresses, exam questions, ooops!
If it would ever become a reality the benefits would be enormous. Alzheimer patients come to my mind but I've never studied the illness so I don't know if something like that would benefit them or not. Personally I think it would.

1. Did you sell them or throw them away?
Even though we're in the digital age, I have CDs, LPs and cassettes to go along with my mp3s.

3. I threw them away
I tried to see if there were any collectors locally but no luck, wasn't sure which ones had skips, couldn't remember, some were worn out pretty bad from cheap turntables and lastly, we had them lined up vertically and a couple of our kitties decided to exercise their claws on the ridges so all in all, they really wouldn't have interested anybody.

4. Oh, okay.
If they were in good condition, I might have bought them from you. :)

What artists/genres were the LPs, by the way?

7. Mostly what's now called "classic rock"
It used to be called "devil worshiping music" when I was a teen. Lots of Kiss, Black Sabbath, Saxon, Deep Purple & Rainbow, Triumph, Thin Lizzy, Grand Funk, Van Halen, Rush, Angel, Head East (which might be hard to replace on CD), Led Zeppelin, REO Speedwagon, Peter Frampton, plus many others of that genre.

8. Nice!
Most of my LPs are jazz, but I have a few classic rock ones in there, too. I actually got Neil Young's "Harvest" and Led Zeppelin's "IV" for $1 each, and they play perfectly.

9. I listen to more Jazz now
I don't buy the CD's but I keep my Sirius radio on "The Spa" a lot. Next to that I listen to Native American music which I do purchase from time to time.

11. I saw that earlier, good deal
Now I'm feeling a little bad about not making a free offer on here but it was a long, put-off and procrastinated project that just needed to get done. It is too bad that a little more recycling effort wasn't done on my part.
As far as my purchases, I consider it recycling as my wife and I buy a majority of our books, DVD's, music CD's and PS2 games used then sell or trade them when we don't need or use them anymore. I don't feel too bad as most artists and authors get their big money and signing bonuses up front and I don't see the need to chop down another tree just so I can read a story when there is already one printed. Same with CD's and other plastics that use petroleum based products in their manufacturing.

2. I love my LP's and my cassettes, and intend on keeping them.
I have a stockpile of diamond needles for my grandparent's old credenza style stereo. I'm nostagic that way. We only just got a DVD player, and that's because we bought a Playstation for the kids two years ago. I resist as long as I can. But one thing I will never own is an ipod or MP3 player. We bought one for my daughter and it's a pain in the ass...although I admit to enjoying CD burning off of napster. Leave me back here in the 80's while you go forward. ;)

The old, big TV consoles too.

6. Yes. It was my grandparents...it's HUGE with a spot to store LP's.
Luckily, my grandfather had purchase about 25 needles for it. So I can listen happily. I love TV Consoles too. :hi:
