The Super Bowl ad highlight/lowlight reel
There were some ads that were both clever and successful, some against all odds -- the grimy glove of the security guy in the Sierra Mist commercial doesn't create a bad aftertaste at all, remarkably. And who knew the best laughs would come from a mortgage company? Still, Jessica Simpson was put to dull, predictable use, and McDonald's sad effort to catch up with Burger King's clever campaigns is painful to watch. Below are some highlights and lowlights.

1. This was the worst Super Bowl in memory, ad-wise
I can't remember a Super Bowl in the last 25 years that had not a single memorable ad....even the best (the "Magic Fridge") were mildly amusing at best. Like the game, the ads were a big letdown

2. I thought the caveman ad was the funniest, but the best ad...
was the Budweiser one with the baby Klydesdale trying to pull the Bud wagon.

3. I loved the "Magic Fridge!"
The FedEx one with the pterodactyls was good too (especially the dinosaur foot at the end). I also liked the security/Sierra Mist thing (and I figure it's good to remind people how easily power can be abused). That "crust was made for poppin'" thing is just friggin' bizarre. What does Pizza Hut have against crust? Why are they always trying to turn it into cheese?

Pepsi ads also kind of lame, though I liked the "stunt double."

Ah well,

5. It was worse when the SB was filled with ads from new dot-coms, who had
blown millions of venture capital money they had lying around on their desks, just to get "billboard space" during the Superbowl, and mostly had just stupid ads (like the ?pets.com? sock puppet).

4. Those Pizza Hut commercials were terrible
They totally destroyed "Boots", her singing sucked shit, and the pizza looks difficult to eat after the crust has all been eaten away.

Screw Pizza Hut.
