And the rest is hysteria.

6. Meh, who cares about hippy music?
That was from the age of young white guys imitating old black men… badly, I might add.

I'd much rather curl up with a nice Ministry CD or something. Or maybe Skinny Puppy.

8. I remember them on the Ed Sullivan show.
The girls went nuts. The guys in my high school changed the words in their songs.

9. And I bet some of 'em started wearing
Beatle boots and letting their hair grow.

Jealousy can drive people to do odd things.

12. The guys wore their pants with the legs pegged.
High school fashion changed.

I noticed but I was never part of that group.

11. Cute young things
"Damned hippie radicals" my father always called them (they and anyone else who was young and didn't listen to Hank Williams).

13. Hey, Hank Sr. rocked
(Not literally, of course.)

Sucks that I had to be about 40 before realizing that.

14. Oh, I agree
I grew up on old fashioned country and bluegrass music and I loved it. Still do. But I also love rock and my father could never see any value whatsoever in any of it. He refused to accept that Neil Young's roots are very country, for instance, or that much of it was influenced by music he listened to. (though in later years, he began sneaking pieces into his repertoire - he plays guitar and sings. He even did a pretty good version of "Yesterday").

15. That was the thing about the Beatles
From about 1966 on, they defied genre. I can't imagine anyone who doesn't like at least one Beatles song.

Hell, they covered "Act Naturally," which was written by John Russell and first recorded by Buck Owens.

16. I saw them on Ed Sullivan to see all the screaming girl hysteria ...
and to pretend that I was too sophisticated for all that type of behavior. A pretentious pre-teen, I was.
