"May I speak to the home owner please" |
|
You get this call. And you ask why they want to speak with a homeowner and they have a foreign accent and repeat this request.
I get so mad at this. I'm a female and it is assumed I'm not the home owner. I worked hard to buy my own place and no one helped me. And I get these stupid shit calls on the phone from sexist people from Asian countries where they burn widows on pyers assuming (when I answer the phone!) that someone else paid my way to live here. I'm sorry but you are due a string of cusswords if you assume I don't own my own home.

8. I was thinking the same thing. I've gotten calls |
|
like that and have seriously thought about saying, "the homeowner is not here, thank god, because I'm robbing the place." Thought better of it though. Don't need a SWAT team showing up.

3. I was going to post a similar thread - re: assuming "Mrs" |
|
Edited on Tue Feb-07-06 07:41 PM by sbj405
I'm getting some work done and everyone refers to me as "Mrs. X" as if a single woman couldn't possibly own a home, let alone make decisions.

10. How about training people not to be oversensitive gits? |
|
Seriously. How is " Am I speaking with the owner?" any less offensive, if you're inclined to be offended by "May I speak with the home owner"

17. Yeah, so, how does it work |
|
when they ask a man?
That isn't assuming that no woman could own a home, thats assuming that anyone could answer the phone and they don't KNOW who owns the home, so they ask for the *gasp* homeowner.
They ask this question of men. It isn't more polite, it's just overcompensating for some peoples insecurities by making the question even more vague and wasting more time.

18. I haven't gotten that one but here's what burns me up |
|
I will be out at a restaurant with my husband and the waiter or waitress will hand him the bill. Ok. But then I will physically give the person my debit card to pay for the meal and then he or she brings the receipt back to my husband! WTF? I handed the damn thing to the person and it has my name on it (which is unmistakenly a woman's name) but it must belong to the man at the table. ARGH!!
