20. Hello!
Actually, those of us who are natives of the Northwest, especially the rainy west side, actually don't mind the rain too much. But in January and February, we tend to get the most rain, and it can rain for weeks at a time. That gets to us after awhile. But, despite what people from other areas may think, it really doesn't rain 365 days a year here! :hi:

This year was the first time it rained during a Seahawks game in Qwest field. Seattle doesn't get the rain we do up here.

Edited on Wed Feb-08-06 02:04 PM by DarkmoonIkonoklast
there's a group out here called "Lesser Seattle Inc"... not as active as in years past, since it's founder/chief protaganist (anyone remember Emmett Watson?) died, but far from defunct. LSI's primary campagin is to convince the world that Seattle is actually a moor in the midst of a bog in the midst of a rainforest submerged under a raging waterfall... and that we NEVER see the sun!

They promote the Seattle Rain Festival -- Sept 1 - to - Aug 31.

Actually, we get THREE WHOLE DAYS of sunshine EVERY YEAR!!!

Funny, though, I can't find any images of what Vegas looks like to me, but these are good tourist shots. And frankly, it's starting to look too much like Southern California for my tastes, I think soon I'll be packing it up and going to Arkansas.

34. And THAT's why the hypothetical DU Gettogether should be in Vegas
Someone always says "St. Louis" because it's equally inconvenient for almost everybody, or "DC" because that's where Skinner, etc. already are (and they're ass-kissers), or "Chicago" because it's easier for a lot of people to reach for a day-trip.

I say Vegas: If everyone shows up and we all hate each other's guts, we can all at least get blind stinking drunk, put $78 on green -- for no apparent reason -- and then take a great big communal piss off the Casino Royale, and the authorities won't say a thing if you have an out-of-state driver's license.

In fact, I'll even show everybody how to get to the roof of the Casino Royale.

Edited on Tue Feb-07-06 11:45 PM by Nevernose
That was my impression of it when I was there 10-15 years ago. I stopped in at a friend's uncle's place, and discovered that it wall to wall mahogony, approximately six feet wide and was four stories tall, and cost him a million dollars. And we got turned away from bars (not nightclubs, but bars) because we weren't dressed well enough.

I hate to sound like some kind of weirded-out hippy, but most of SoCal has a very negative vibe to it. Some of the people there were extremely kind and polite, but most of them were incredibly rude. Most people think I'm clinically insane when I say this, but I assure you that there are some people out there who know exactly what I'm talking about.

from sea to shining...

I've seen most of it, at least to pass through... coast-to-coast and border-to-border at least a dozen times (sorry, Alaska, ain't been to you... yet!;-) )

I've lived in more than a dozen cities in half a dozen states in my 56 years... called Pugetopolis home for the last 29 (30 in October); I love it all, mountains and canyons, rainforests and deserts, wildernesses and megaurbs... it's all inspiring, the people (damn near everyone I've met) are brave and funny and diligent and loving and...

When Katrina slammed NOLA last summer, I felt gut-punched; I cried (then had to explain the waterworks to my kids) for my old neighborhood (Decatur St across from the Cafe du Monde) and my neighbors...

I guess that's why I'm so obsessed with retrieving it from the shrub and his owners...

I am so grateful for this place (DU) and for you crazy wonderful people!
