need help on how to reply to an email... |
|
OK, I'm working with another individual on a business project, and we communicate almost exclusively by email. Turns out one of the products we're talking about bringing to market is a device that could have saved one of this person's children's life and this person said so in an email today. I haven't replied, b/c I'm waiting for more info/input on a report from this person (due sometime this week) -- and thought I might say something when we next correspond. The comment this person made wasn't a grab for sympathy or a remark, but - how do I handle this? Any thoughts?

1. I'd aim for polite and sympathetic but not gushing. |

Something along the lines of "I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your child." Unless the offer more details or get emotional about it, if it's a professional relationship, I think that's about all that's polite.

that sounds about right. I think if the project goes forward, we'll become friends but at this point I just wasn't sure quite what to say.
