Woo-Hoo! I just got my first official term paper back!
It was written for my "Composition 3310" class, and I was scared, having not written a paper in over four years and being uncertain as to what kind of a grader the professor would be.....

98 % !!!!
and an
"Excellent work.":woohoo:

Have I mentioned that I LOVE SCHOOL, today?

I got about two hours of sleep last night, and I feel like death warmed over, but I'm still smiling!

4. thanks!
We're having cherry cheesecake after dinner to celebrate, but I don't think I'll make I regular practice of that. I want to get A's, but not at the expense of my thighs!

6. Thanks!
I'd have a frosty mug later as your smileys suggest, but I
am so tired, I'd pass out for sure, and I promised to go run with my friend.

11. I know, I know.
I'm self-deprecating about my writing though. I get PARANOID. I read the paper again when I got it back and, of course, decided I don't like it. Ah well, it served its purpose, anyway. Thanks for your support, OR. It really helped :)

12. Oh it better be! Handing in my work is like throwing myself naked onto
a table for scrutiny beneath a thousand-watt light. I just turned in another paper today, and it was torturous to write, and painful to turn over. I second-guess every word I type! Thanks, Peggy!:)

18. Second-guessing is a good thing
I used to tell reporters, "Words are powerful. You'd better have a damned good reason for every one you write."

According to my credits earned, anyway. Third year, third school...I *ought* to be a pro by now. I took the last four years off.

29. You're a punk. A punk!!! And a sissy!!!
Here at my school, the average grade is supposed to be 65%, and if everybody in a class does too well a review board can suppress our grades and reprimand the prof, and there ain't a damn thing we can do about it!

A 98% on a paper!?!?!? Ha! Over here we'd practically sell our dignity for an 80%...

Sorry, I'm just grumbling as I pour my soul into another paper I'm sure won't rate above an A- around here, on a good day.

30. It's independent study. From the way the syllabus sounds,
about 2/3 of students don't even pass, because they fail to get their work in. I don't think it's real competitive where I'm at either!

I'm a punk and a sissy! I AM an overachiever, then!

31. Hey, the more people here who suck, the better it is for me.
Since only a limited number of people can get As in any given course, anybody who doesn't want to turn in their work only helps me. One time somebody told me "a lot of people I know in our class didn't even finish the exam". My reaction was a Peter Griffinesque "sweeeeet".

The administration has turned me against my fellow students

32. I always loved classes that were graded on a curve.
There was typically some *element* that insured that I didn't have to attain perfection to get an A.

34. Except there's no curve
If everybody does poorly, that's more acceptable than if everybody does well. Only some science classes are graded on a curve. In history, they just give out grades to keep the class within the parameters. There's little you can do about it.

38. Yeah, well, I picked this place because it's big with a small school vibe
and because there were no required classes outside my discipline. The grading thing really blindsided me.
