At least I'm not stuck in a time-warp with Idol - and even though some are not Professionals, they are, at least real...and offer some surprises in their performances. I'm too vintage to appreciate the same old bevy of classic '70s performers that seem to be everywhere, from hobnobbing with the prez, to hanging out at funerals, Being played by every corn-ball "Oldies" station in America and taking up space at the Super Bowl. Let's move on!

..And you know..it's pretty damn bad when even a Jazz Musician would rather watch A. I. than the Grannies.. :)

1. No kidding, I agree 100%. The so called 'professionals,' are just
marketed better, they still suck once you take away the hype.

3. I never watch such "award" ceremonies.
In my opinion, our society does entirely too much mutual (typically within the set and circle) and self gratulation and reward. This is narcissistic, and it has debased the (as-should-be) recognition (etc) of the exceptional into the (near-mandatory) praise (etc) of the mediocre. Worse yet, people have come to expect praise and recognition for merely doing their damn job (or duty -- and even for doing the wrong thing)... and even that not well.

Combine this shortcoming with people constantly making excuses for their failings -- and constantly pointing the finger of blame somewhere, anywhere, other than themselves -- and you have a societal "ethos" that's the fast track to ruin.

...

But if it's one's "thing", then watch it.

4. I wouldn't give a nickel..
... for a DVD of any of it.

Pop music, at the commercial level, is 100000% crap. The crapmeisters get together every year to hand out crap trophies to the crap "artists" who make crap music that is 100% crap.

Forget about it.

7. Well...when I watch Idol, there just might be someone who ...
...will impress me. (Actually, there's a little 16 year old girl that sounds
like the next Aretha Franklin..she's damn good).
..Plus I get a kick out of some contestants that are Soooo bad, I'm actually
impressed by their "Horribleness". :)

And the comments by Simon are quite amusing....

9. Freak show
No interest.
They sing crap songs. They don't write their own stuff. They're judged by a bunch of shallow hogs.

What's to like?

I can't stand seeing people so desperate for attention.

8. There were a few performances worthy of watching the Grammys last night
Not many, but I was impressed with Linkin Park & Jay-Z doing Encore/Numb which merged into the Beatles Yesterday and Paul McCartney joined them.

Bruce's song was not only much appreciated but he even said "Bring them home" which I'm assuming was meant for the troops.

And you always have to appreciate the antics of Kanye West and Jamie Foxx. And I was shocked - Jamie can actually sing (he did some acapella stuff at the start of Gold Digger). The performance was entertaining if anything!
