"It's A Living"
I had completely forgotten about this TV show and the initial controversy of the pilot episode from 1980 (the plot and they wore short waitress outfits - the "jiggle TV era"). Wow.
Ann Jillian, Crystal Bernard, Gail Edwards. It wasn't very good, but I did watch it on a regular basis.

"To my knowledge, it never reached the point of letter writing or vocal opposition, however, we were panned in many reviews. Yes, we wore revealing outfits and delivered a fair amount of risqué dialogue, but the pilot's controversy revolved around one waitress's dilemma (a virgin) of whether she should go on vacation with her newfound boyfriend because it may lead to sex—and for the most part, all her fellow waitresses replied, 'Why not?'" -- GAIL EDWARDS

1. Gail Edwards!
Gawd... I fell in love with her when she played a member of a USO troupe in a "MASH" double episode.

5. I don't do stuff like that
Celebrities get brazillions of e-mails and whatnot, and I don't like being just another anonymous person in any crowd.

6. I don't either. The site says she only answers questions about her career
and she posts them on the website, which is kind of cool of her, but I can't think of anything that I would want to ask her.

2. I used to watch that with my grandmother
I was 12 at the time. She didn't seem to think it was too risque for me.

4. It was a silly controversy. Like the controversy over "Soap" two years
earlier. My mom wasn't going to let us watch Soap because of the controversy and the gay character. A few episodes into the first season and she was enjoying it with us.

7. It seems every time a new show comes out
People get themselves worked into a lather over some trivial thing--usually before they've even seen a single episode. It's all so silly really. In the end, quality programming gets nixed because of the whining of the wingnuts, and crap stays on because it is bland enough to keep the same wingnuts satisfied. What needs to happen is for the wingnuts to be given remedial classes in the use of their V-chips, television remotes, and "off" buttons.
