So, i've been 'power walking' every morning
started this week. the new job gives me time now in the morning to change my routine. getting up the same time as Mrs Matcom and she heads for the shower and I head out the door for a 30 minute power walk (as opposed to getting up and heading out for the first cig of the day)

only been 4 days now but i am starting to feel a difference. almost starting to feel kinda good. out for a brisk walk, in for a healthy bowl of cereal.

who knew? this might actually start to make me feel *gasp* good?

9. Walker passes runner going in different directions
Walker (thinks to self) "Injury magnet"
Runner (to self) "Wussie!"

:bounce:

=|:^)=

Feels great doesn't it? You definitely roll into the morning with a great feeling (but not as great as if you joined the SO *IN* the shower I'm just saying').

Did you quit smoking?

Either way good for you. It sucks much less when it isn't so cold. I started running again but I have to go at 6PM due to the morning baby schedule.

10. Walking is good
Edited on Thu Feb-09-06 09:47 AM by Squeech
I get a mile walk in every (working) morning, from my house to the subway. There's a certain amount of extra aerobics involved, dodging some of the cowboys in urban traffic. Hopefully this isn't as much of a problem for you in the burbs.

My problem is, after my head-clearing walk, I then have to put up with the sardine cannery they call the MBTA, which renders it absolutely impossible to get to work in anything resembling a good mood.

On edit: and beyond the health aspects, giving up smoking is good just because Big Tobacco is such a big part of the Repukes' funding structure.

17. I used to have my morning walk after the T ride.
Very good for mood elevation, even with consideration of the playing in traffic along the walking route.
Now that I'm in suburban Calif, the neighbors offer me rides when I'm walking three blocks from the house.

Good for you Matcom. You'll feel a lot better over the long haul. It's great that you live in a neighborhood where you can get out and walk. I have to use the treadmill. But i do feel better.

16. Yeah, I've taken up using my lunch hour to power walk through the city.
It does make you feel great.

Of course, I'm NOT looking forward to the summer, when doing that will cause me to sweat profusely, thus ceasing the practice. :evilfrown:

19. Damn.
If YOU are going to go and get all healthy, there goes my last excuse for putting it off. I always took solace in the notion that at least I wasn't as big a slacker as you.

Oh, ok. I'll admit it. I'm proud of you, Sparky.

20. Power walking? aka dork walking?
I remember on one of Gary Null's programs, he was instructing people how to. "Women", he said, "do this and you'll find the fat melts off your hips and butt. You can have a butt like mine".

:wtf: He has NO ass!

Sure as hell I'd want too much of one, rather than none at all.

22. I do the walk thing to right after lunch
Ten minutes one way, then ten minutes back, not sure what that distance would be though. I've got a stationary bike at home I use on the days where the weather doesn't co-operate.
Stay in the habit.
