Okay people, what'd you get your SO for the big V-Day?
Me? I got my wonderful and amazing girlfriend tickets to the Shakespeare Theatre, dinner reservations at a fancy restaurant, a few out-of-print CDs from a band that she loved but lost them a while ago, and flowers and chocolates to be delivered to her at work on Valentine's Day.

How bout you guys and gals?

6. We don't celebrate Valentine's Day...
any more than any other day. Just another Hallmark Holiday designed to separate you from your money.

11. So is Christmas. Doesn't mean it's not fun.
So what if it's designed to get you to spend money? It's a good excuse for a night on the town, so far as I'm concerned, not that one is needed, but it certainly enhances things a bit.

13. I'm going to be in Las Vegas.
I'll be at a General Manager's convention for my job. :-( However, the following weekend we're going to new york for a romantic weekend, including dinner, a show, and maybe a few other "surprises".

But I'll cook a nice supper for my house mates.

I'll be sure to add a baked sweet potato for the keeper of my heart, my parrot.

24. That's one lucky bird.
I pet sit a canary and it's always fun to give him his veggie treat. This bird loves greens and was thrilled by the gnarliest piece of kale. He thanked me with a very long and exuberant song.

26. That's one very spoiled bird!
I've changed a lot of my eating habits to accommodate Frodo. We'll be celebrating her 5th birthday this month. She's better than a TV for entertainment. There is nothing like bird love to bring massive amounts of joy into your heart!

Thanks for telling me about your canary sitting experience. Do you bring the bird to your home or do you just check in on him?

28. His folks go away on vacation, and so does he.
He recognizes the room at our place now and seems to settle in within a couple of hours. He chatters with the birds in our 'hood quite a bit, as if he's working the room. Like most male canaries when he feels like singing it's a spectacular song with trills and repeating motifs. I keep hoping one of the darn mockingbirds will pick up on the good singing but no luck so far.

17. Something I've always found a bit curious...
It seems like all of my female friends have never really had any clue what to do for their guys on Valentine's Day. Guys are usually painted as the inept ones, and yet my own experience seems to be vice-versa. I wonder why that is...

Note: I'm not trying to make any social statement or create any stereotypes, I'm just wondering aloud.

21. In my experience men over about 25
tend to have the money they need to buy themselves the little things they want, so it's hard to find something reasonable that they don't already have. My mom goes through heck even though her hubby is a big baseball and golf fan and a cigar smoker - he has every accoutrement ever invented for each interest. Leaves her scratching her head ... what would actually make him happy?

On his end all he has to do is bring flowers and a card, or a piece of jewelry if he's feeling spendy, and she's all set.

23. You're missing the obvious!
If she's feeling spendy, all she needs do is get him tickets to a game! Or a gift cert. for greens fees.

Believe it or not, every guy has his equivalent of "flowers and a card, or maybe jewelry", something you can never get enough of and will always make him happy.

And I try to stay away from that whole routine anyway. Too cliche. Yeah, I did the whole flowers/chocolates thing, but I sent them to work to make her co-workers jealous and make her the center of attention. :-)

29. Well, once again and as
usual, I don't have an SO on V-Day, so I can't really answer that. I sure wish just once V-Day would fall on a Saturday or Sunday so I don't have to watch all the other women in whatever office I'm in get flower deliveries all damned day.

31. We don't
Between December and end of Feb, we have our anniversary, Christmas, two kids birthdays, and my birthday. I just make a nice dinner for after the kids go to bed, and that way we can pay the mortgage. ;)
