Does anyone even pay attention to the Grammys anymore?
Edited on Thu Feb-09-06 11:51 AM by no name no slogan
Seriously, outside of a few sycophants in the music business, does anybody even really give a damn?

Remember, this is the same body that gave the "Best New Artist" award in 1979 to "A Taste of Honey" instead of Elvis Costello.

ON EDIT: And don't forget, they also gave the first "Best Metal Act" Grammy to JETHRO FREAKING TULL over Metallica.

:wtf:

10. Yeah, I forgot about them too
until I get here and everybody's talking about them. Everybody knows they stopped making good music back in 1990. What's wrong with these people? :silly:

14. Quibble: The Tull Grammy...
...was awarded when the category was hard rock/heavy metal. it was precisely becasue of the outcry from Metallica fans that the category was subsequently split.

So Tull never won a "metal" Grammy. There wasn't such a thing at the time.

Their Crest of a Knave sure is fine hard rock (in places). Whether or not it was deserving of a Grammy is disputable, but I don't think it was out of place in the category.

17. Well, apparently I'm supposed to care that someone wore gloves
to the ceremony*. I'm not clear on why I'm supposed to care, but it seems it's a pretty big deal.

Actually, you might be able to help me out on this - since "Odelay," has any album of any interest to people whose tastes run more or less along the lines of ours gotten a Grammy?

22. I've actually wondered that myself
And you're right: I could have cared less about most of the recent grammy winners.

If only A Taste Of Honey would have stuck together, and followed up "Boogie Ooogie Ooogie" with something as substantive as "Armed Forces"...

23. The only time I ever watched that abortion
Was when Iggy Pop got nominated for best metal act. I think that was the same year Tull won it. I just watched long enough to see the Igster get introduced, then turned it off. It's the anti-music show; if you like music, there is no way to enjoy the Grammies. If you like puffed up, over-made-up no-talents, the Grammies is where it's at.

All you really need to know is the Beatles and Stones, among many others, have never won one.
