As I mentioned upthread, I lived in TN many moons ago. My Dad is from Clarksville and the lineage goes back some 200 years in the state. You should be happy there. :-)

Damn, you're good! It's in Chuckey, between Greeneville and Jonesborough. I'm not too good at TN geography yet ... is Clarksville in that neighborhood at all? We are finding the people there to be very friendly. And the scenery is just breath-taking. :)

Clarksville is upper middle TN, northwest of Nashville. :-)

Take some time to explore Great Smoky Mountain National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway. There is an ancient feel to the place like no other.

He can hardly wait! I wish someone would buy our house TOMORROW so we can get the show on the road. Yes, we will explore Great Smoky Mountain National Park.

Our daughter and son-in-law live in Bristol, so we won't be too far from them. We wanted to be closer, but we couldn't find land up there. It was a learning experience ... we thought "sloping" meant, well, that it sloped. Apparently, in TN, it means vertical, on the side of the mountain. What we got is called ROLLING. We wasted two days looking at the sloping places. The "flat" ones meant that there were about 4 square feet of flat before it went straight up or down for 3 acres.

You would make a good TN tour guide! :bounce:

Yep, those are accurate terms. :D

The downside of east TN is the grinding poverty of Appalachia - it is eye-opening - and the tacky tourism of Gatlinburg. For a history freak like me, I am into the Civil War lore, and the rich landscape.

I am much less familiar with the state west of the TN River though. :-)

61. My daughter LOVES Gatlinburg!

As a matter of fact, she's going there this weekend. We invited her to have a picnic on our property, which we find very relaxing, and she's not the least bit interested.

We love the rich landscape as well. I don't know about the poverty. We saw lots of McMansions up there (yuck!) and then areas of run-down trailers, similar to what we find here in FL. Oh, yeah, we have the tacky tourism here, too ... and let's not forget the hurricanes.

Actually, when we built this house, my dad had intended it to be his little guy-place-of-solitude cabin away from home. But MMjr and I moved in before he got a chance to stow any of his junk here, and he hasn't been able to pry us out since. :rofl: I think it pisses him off that he has to knock on the door to HIS cabin before he can come in. :D

Anyway, gas heating is costing me a large fortune--even in Mississippi. I've already put well over $1500 of propane in the tank, and that's just since November. I'd love to have a woodheater--Katrina left us plenty of firewood!
