Yay. The Olympics are starting. Wow.
I really don't care about them at all, and they never televise the things I am interested in anyway. Y'know, I liked it much better when both the summer and winter olympics were the same year. Back then, the hype would start up, and when the Olympics were over it was gone for 4 years. Now we get the same hype every 2 years. Same sports-twice the hype. Joy.

2. I liked it when they were both in the same year too.
My children are looking forward to the Olympics. During the 2004 Summer Games, we were visiting in Minnesota and staying with my parents. I let the kids stay up late and we all piled into bed together to watch events until the kids fell asleep.

4. Frankly I never cared about the winter olympics at all
Even though I love sledding...
I try to catch fencing during the summer olympics, but they never televise it.

7. Do you have access to a Canadian TV station?
I often watch on the Canadian channel, because they broadcast in real time instead of an hours-long delay. (Of course for the Winter games, they broadcast LOTS of hockey.) But sometimes they show events that the US stations don't show.

5. I think you're right. Nobody I know talks about the Olympics anymore.
I thinnk the "Dueling Boycotts" may have helped kill off interest in them as well.

13. I had no idea they were starting so soon
until I checked NBC's website last night and saw massive "Opening Ceremonies" ads everywhere. I'll probably watch the hockey, but I'd much rather have my West Wing back on Sunday nights.

17. The CBC has pretty good coverage all right.
They show a lot of different sports whether Canadians are in it or not. The American channels seem to think if the USA ain't in it,it's not happening.

in which the twinkie spokesthing says, "We all have our favorite U.S. Olympic moments."

Yeah. The hell with Olga Korbut, Nadia Comenici, etc. etc. etc. :eyes:

19. I think that's part of why I don't like them
As I said upthread, I like fencing. I used to fence saber competitively too. Part of the problem the US has with fencing is that they take the 'jock' attitude towards sports, where everything is about how strong or fast someone is, and there's more to fencing than that. so, we don't do as well, and our bigot freepers then say 'So what? it's not a REAL sport, like <insert sport the US does well in usually>' and we never end up getting better because we don't put any effort into it, because it doesn't matter since we don't do well at it. Negative feedback loop generated by stupid fake patriots.

16. I guess I'm the contrarian here...Love the Olympics, especially...
the Winter ones. I do hate much of the coverage, but the worst can be avoided by watching on the obscure channels like CNBC

18. I'm with ya ...

Love the Olympics. Always have. I'm a little irritated at the introduction of paid athletes into some of the events, but I still like the event.

I also actually do like curling.

31. Watch the skeleton competition as well - similar to luge, but
they go down head first and manuever through the turns by shifting their weight and moving their legs around off the back of the sled...:o
