3. I think my next painting will be titled "Refused is fuckin' dead."
I should probably include you in it somehow.

No good can come from this...aside from it being named after one of the best hardcore songs ever. (Though upon checking the cd case, it's actually "Refused ARE fuckin' dead," but whatever.)

7. Thanks.
Somebody on another board was disappointed when I told him there was no underlying meaning to these three paintings.

Anyway, thanks for voting. Lock seems to be a bit more popular than plug.

10. I like the crispness of the solder picture
and the shape of the top the spool is bent and unexpected.

Are you a fan of Claes Oldenburg?

He does wonderful drawings, and then monumnetal sculptures of small, common objects.

13. Yeah, I like Claes Oldenburg.
Love the giant clothespin in Philadelphia and the Bat Column in Chicago.

And I agree with you, so much of the beauty of what he does is in the preliminary drawings and diagrams.

12. These are all impressive.
I voted for lock, my favorite execution, although I think solder is my favorite subject.

This could be Freudian in some way I cannot decipher. At least I understand refused is fuckin' dead.

16. Solder.
I think it's more interesting than the other two, and I love the way you handled the light on the turning edge (left side). Good vibes for your show, my friend! :pals:

I like solder because the spool belonged to my wife's grandfather, and I like thinking about him.

I appreciate the good wishes.

18. I have another, similar reason for liking "Solder."
When I was a little girl, my sister and I used to steal spools of solder from dad's "workshop" and bend off sections of it to make rings and little sculptures that turned our hands black and made them stink. I like thinking about those times.

It seems to be a battle between those two among my local friends also.

And I had pretty much decided on Plug.

Well, I have until 4 p.m. to decide.

31. Solder.
And speaking of grandfathers, it does remind me of mine. He was an electrician, and when I was a little boy, I just loved to play with all the stuff he had in his workplace, and soldering was one of my favorites (because it involved something with fire.)

34. Soldering is pretty cool, and damned magical for a kid to see.
I'm still askeered of it.

Must have been fun to have an electrician grandfather. Especially for a pyro toddler such as yourself.

39. It was fun,
however, he was never very fond of my 'pyro' mentality. He died when I was 4 years old, just a few steps on the street where we now live, but I remember this big guy (he was 6' 2") always demanding me to 'put out the fire. Now.'

37. Do you do glazes?
It is hard to tell looking at a .jpg, but the transparency of it made me think watercolor. Maybe that is just how it photographs.

38. Yeah, I do glazes, but minimal with those.
I was pleased enough with the a la prima that I didn't glaze much.

On bigger paintings, I usually do a monochromatic underpainting with a lot of glazes, particularly on portraits.

Those little guys look pretty true to themselves in the jpegs, even though they were reproduced via flatbed scanner.

You sound like a painter.

40. Yep
though I haven't painted much in awhile, I hope to get back into it.

I've just become an art teacher in the past couple of years, and most of my art energy goes towards making samples for classes.

I am surprised how well the flatbed picked up the texture of the canvas in these pictures.
