16. Mine...
I made this a few days ago, but it just about captures my feelings about now...

Go figure, it was inspired by a Hubble image of a supermassive black hole drawing in a nearby star.

This was inspired by what I saw when flying into land at Minneapolis when the entire area was covered with low lying fog.

Sorry to be so hit-and-miss in the Lounge today. Call Me Wesley has caught my cold and I multi-tasking: cleaning so that everything's fresh and germ-free, and starting a pot of chicken soup (with potatoes, corn, carrots, green beans, onion and homegrown bay leaf, parsley and oregano.) What else should I put in it? (No tomatoes. CMW is anti-tomato about soup.)

Austin reminds me of a painting by Friedrich A. von Kaulbach.

Are you familier with his works?

Don't be amazed. The primary, driving forces are interest and commitment to learning (including being criticized and ramping up my self-discipline.) I believe _anyone_ can paint well, given the interest and commitment to learning.

You amaze me, too, in more ways than you know, warrior woman. :loveya:

They are flower arrangements I've done.

One: flowers for a wedding cake for a friend of mine.

Two: flower arrangement I made for my Thanksgiving table.

Another view:

I guess art doesn't always take the form of paintings.

59. I have some kind of neurological disconnect
when working with a mouse and/or stylus. So I just give up. I rarely even draw with a pencil; normally, it's just brush to canvas, and _anybody_ can do that. I think painting is a craft just like any other craft. (But I thank you for your kind words.)

Edited on Fri Feb-10-06 09:45 AM by jane_pippin
Are yours part of a full story or are they stand-alone drawings?

These are my aborted attempts at making stuff:

Here's Jeff. He's from a comic I never finished and have no time to work on now:

Here are some homes in Jeff's neighborhood:

Here's Jodi. She's from some other comic I have no time to work on now:

Edit: I hope you can see them. Sometimes I can't get stuff I worked on in illustrator to show up on PCs. I'm sure I could learn how to fix it, but again, I have no time for anything. (Thanks, jobs.) :(

65. Thank you. I'm not a professional anything. I just draw to relax.
I wish I could figure out how to get the first two to work. I don't know why that happens, (but if I did I might be able to apply for design jobs.) :D

And yeah, it's my own lettering. Jodi is just a drawing done with a decent pen and then I added color in photoshop.

The other two that don't show up were done in Adobe Illustrator only, but then stuck into photoshop for some tweaking and saving. (Which is apparently pointless since nobody can see 'em.) :)

And Heidi, I love, love! your paintings. They're so rich and soft. Looking at them is calming and I love that there's so much to take in while still being uncomplicated.

70. I'd love to be able to do that
but I don't think I know enough about the technical aspects of it yet to be taken seriously if I applied for a job. I still need to learn more about the Adobe programs--I just play around with them until I figure out a way to make things look like I want them to, but I'm sure there's an easier way to go about it than the way I wind up doing it. And I don't know about color--like when to work in CMYK and why, when to work in RGB, how to make sure it looks essentially the same on macs, pc's, and paper--all that stuff.

What I need is about 4 months off from work to just sit down with some books and go through them until I've learned what I need to learn.

I got your PM--I'll take you up on that, thank you! I'll send something out either tonight after work or tomorrow afternoon. Thank you so much for your support--it means a lot to me.

66. Fine stuff!
Let me guess--you did much of your early work in class. But not in art class!

I spend some time looking at "serious" art, but I'd rather check out a good Graphic Novel than another damned Schnabel.

86. I like that! It reminds me of my favorite XM station.
I've been listening to channel 44, which is songs from our youth. That collage is very evocative of that time period.

Or, in other words, me likey.

91. Where do you find canvases that small?
The smallest gallery-wrap canvas I can find here is 10 x 10 cm (about 4" x 4"). I love that you paint all the way around, too. That's how I work, because it gives the buy the option of framing or just hanging.

92. This crazy framing shop on Foster Road in SE Portland sometimes has those
tiny canvases. Next time I'm down there, I will see if they have any in and will grab some for you.

Don't hesitate to remind me. Could be a fun field trip.
