ever think you are just a wee bit smarter than every other human being
on the planet, then do something REALLY stupid and realize its the other way around - a wee bit dumber.

1. You mean I'm not??!! When did that happen?
Every day I am humbled by the wealth of knowledge and information I read here at DU. I post regularly on a veteran's forum and those guys are sharp, too.

3. I admit, sometimes I do.
But then something happens that brings me back to earth, and I realize (and celebrate) the fact that there are an awful lot of smart people living on Mother Earth. And I find that totally cool.

5. Nope
Everyone has areas in which they excel and in which they suck — though their excellence may not be so excellent, relatively, nor may their suckage.

I figure I'm above average in a couple of things and below average in a couple. Everything else hovers right around the average, and that's just fine with me.

8. Hi, SG!
 nice to see you!

I'm pooped - in fact, too pooped to poop. :)
I spent the first part of this week doing parental duty, and never really caught up. Tomorrow morning, however, I sleep in!

10. I remember hearing Sting interviewed onetime, and the....
...interviewer asked him something to the effect of how was he different now, than when he was younger... He said as he's gotten older, he realizes, he doesn't know everything....;-)

I like that. It means, we are always learning and growing.

13. May I ditto your "Absolutely"...
...I know some of his music, but am not a fan. However, he was being interviewed on some show I was watching when he made those comments, and I thought: There is wisdom in those words. I had often thought the same...

Mine, anyway — to learn, and to impart knowledge to others.

16. Absolutely agreed.
As I said, my answer had more than a little bit of ego in it. But I am certainly open to learning!

17. I might seem smarter if I was more organdized
I have really got to do a major search and find all of my Vonnegut. I was going to quote from Lasher's speech in "Player Piano" where he says that people are sometimes brilliant and sometimes idiotic (only the exact quote would say it so much better) but I cannot find my copy of Player Piano, nor can I find it online. In a minor irony, I did find a copy of "Lasher" by Anne Rice, but that was not very Helpful.
