1. I was afraid this was going to be a leotard picture.
She looks incredibly fit. But I cannot fathom her clothing choices.

To each his own, I guess.

14. I was thinking the same thing.
She IS very fit and strong and looks amazing. But I think I've seen her in a leotard once too often. I saw clips from the Grammys and she looked like she should have been at a gymnastics meet.

20. "Horrible" as in "not edited, lit, and airbrushed."
Of course the video looks good, she controls it, she has perfect makeup, its lit perfectly, shot perfectly, retouched and edited professionally.

This photo is certainly more like what she really looks like.

44. Not really. "Horrible" as in one eye is closed, her mouth looks
like she was maybe in the middle of saying something or starting to say something, and the pose is odd, as if she were snapped while she was moving from one pose to another.

51. That doesn't excuse the eye surgery, makeup, and boots.
Aging gracefully, to me, means looking like a beautiful 48 year old woman, not looking like a woman who is desperately and unsuccessfully trying to cling to looking like an idealized version of a 20 year old woman when that look itself is unreasonable and artificial.

Women desperately clinging to youth are NEVER graceful, they are sad.

Look at Charlotte Rampling at 50 and 60, thats graceful.

54. I didn't say a word about aging gracefully.
I'm just acknowledging that the picture is an awful one, everything else notwithstanding.

I have no idea if she's had surgery or not.

I never know what to think of her. If I had to pick a favorite artist who is able to endlessly reinvent him or herself, and actually have something to say in the process, it would probably be Bowie, not Madonna.

4. Yeah, that's a lousy picture....
But watch her video (free on Yahoo music) and tell me that this 47-year-old doesn't look good. She does splits and then bends forward at the waist, lying flat on the floor. The woman is in amazing shape, I have to take my hat off to her.

(and you can bet she doesn't carry her infant child in her lap when she's driving...)

18. Madonna looks great for her age but NOT in that picture
First, she's wearing clothes that are waaaay to young for her and even young people wouldn't wear those clothings.

And second - the Farrah-do went out in the 70s, let's not bring it back.

I actually like her new album and the purple leotard is just part of her image, something she changes with every album.

Some people can pull it off - Jenny McCarthy, maybe - but it's not flattering on Madonna. I don't think she has the right hair type for it (I know I don't).

It's a -wee- bit different, but the dynamics and general sound are entirely the same. It doesn't piss me off anywhere near as much as Pink ripping off Spirit's "Fresh Garbage." THAT was a fucking travesty.

37. She's prettier now than she was in the '80s, when I couldn't stand her.
I actually like her. Yes, I think she's aged beautifully. She's got a gorgeous body, a very elegant face--and, best of all, she keeps her children's lives private and doesn't use them as stage props.

I didn't care for Madonna in the 80s, but I guess I kinda like her now days. Yeah, I think she's aged quite gracefully.

Edited on Fri Feb-10-06 02:05 PM by jpgray
But she's anything but graceful these days. Did you see her cringe-worthy appearance at the Kabbalah Conference and elsewhere in Israel? When your argyled-out wardrobe is the least tacky thing about your presence, you know there is a problem.

:scared:

Her music was better in the eighties too. :D

39. I liked "Like a Prayer" and "Papa don't Preach"
but I couldn't stand the boppy tunes like "Like a Virgin" and "Material Girl."

At any rate, she's a brilliant businesswoman, as she's adapted her image many times and still hits the top of the charts.

(I'll add a disclaimer that I was into a much different genre in the 80s. I listened to Black Flag, the Butthole Surfers, the DKs, etc.--I was in my late-teens and early 20s during that decade. :-) )

The eighties for me were about NIN and various metal bands that started with "M." My closest thing to hipster cred as far as my fandom in those days was my appreciation for "Faith No More." :P Granted I was in grade school at the time...

41. LOL! I have Faith No More in my car's CD player right now.
Listened to it on my commute to work yesterday. My favorite song on that CD is Zombie Eaters, the song from the baby's point of view:

Hey look at me lady,
I'm just a little baby,
Your lucky to have me,
I'm cute and sweet as candy.
As charming as a fable,
I'm innocent and disabled.
So hug me and kiss me,
Then wipe my butt and piss me.

Epic is an AWESOME album. Yeah, I listened to NIN too, and to the Red Hot Chili Peppers...but I just didn't like the songs on the pop charts in the 80s. :D

Billie Jean
What I Like About You
Let the Music Play
Vacation
Roam

So many more...those were fun times, weren't they?
