Why are some posts simply deleted? Is DU puritanical???

I posted an offensive joke yesterday in the "Post a strange joke" thread.

I posted it specifically because it is "strange" in its offensiveness. It was not vulgar, just tasteless. I've certainly read far worse in the Lounge, especially from certain chronically overtly sexual posters.

Why delete a joke, even a tasteless/offensive one? Is censorship in the Lounge the new rule of the day?
