Microsoft Vista. Who's gonna get it when it comes out?
Also is it true that there will be a "PDF" make built in it, so you will not need Acrobat?

6. Don't need Acrobat now...
WordPerfect, which I've been using for years, has PDF built in and there are a bunch of things out there, most using some form of Ghostscript, that write and edit PDF files.

Granted, you do need Acrobat or another Adobe product to get all the bells and whistles in a PDF document, but you don't think Micro$oft is going to give you all of them in an OS, do you?

9. PDF specs are published and widely available
in fact, the open-source scripting language PHP can also do PDF conversions on the fly.

MS will probably put PDF capabilities into Windows, because it would be a way to steal marketshare from Adobe, one of their arch-enemies. Remember, they also put a web browser and unzip utility into previous versions of Windows.

7. wait for the point release
buying the first version of any MS software == having unprotected sex in Haiti.

Both are extremely dangerous.

8. Hell no.
I only upgraded to XP because I bought a new computer. For what I do, I don't need a bunch of crap.

10. Everybody who buys it is gonna get it. Right in the shorts.
Any bets on how many days until the first "serious vulnerability" patch?

11. I'll guess....
it'll be released 2 days after serious vulnerabilities are made public by testers.... the patch will come out 11 days later

... of course the 'patch' will cause new vulnerabilities while only repairing a few of the initially released 'PR' problems

13. Nope, not gonna do it...
Didn't get XP until I got a new computer. I won't get another computer until this one poops. I got what I wanted with this and it does what I want it to do. Won't upgrade to Vista either.

14. I just did some checking...
The Beta Testers have a forum they communicate problems to, to get resolutions. There are PAGES and PAGES of problems with Vista reported by the testers so far. From taking four hours to install (4 HOURS!), to sending their computers into reboot loops. The UI looks VERY nice, but I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole until the second release. It sounds like it's a mess right now.

15. I'm pretty happy with XP
I probably won't upgrade until I have to for some reason and I'll wait for revisions to come out first.

Actually - I fib, I do have an iPAQ with WindowsCE, but that will be gone soon --- and I did once buy Microsoft BASIC for my Atari 800.
