Muslim Radicals are Intimidating the Western Press !
How can anyone deny that? Anyone who has read the newspapers lately should be well aware of all the threats and on and on regarding a cartoon about some Islamic Somebody. I think it was Mohamed or someone like that. I really do not care. Can anyone imagine such a hoopla being raised if someone created a cartoon about Christ. People`s lives are being threatened and careers damaged over this nonsense. Do we WESTERNERS EVER STAND UP FOR OURSELVES ANYMORE? Sometimes I do wonder. It reminds me of Neville Chamberlain, with all his excuses for NAZI Germany and what that lead to. ergo WWII.

5. Not really. There was an attack on the trade center Re: Clinton, and 9-11,
during the Bush Administration. Also the attack on the USS Cole and others hostile actions on the part of Jihadists. Would you really like having some Islamic Cleric telling you how to live your life and kill you if did not follow his dictums. I would not. ...Oscar

14. Correct me if I am wrong, you agree with me and W.Journalists are afraid.
These Islamic Jihadists have been terrorizing journalists and so many others for a long time now. Does anyone recall Solemn Rushdie and the death warrant issued by Ayatollah Khomeini because of a book he wrote critical of radical Islam ? ...Oscar

31. You need to pay far more attention. Every single act against the US & its
interests has been in retaliation for actions taken against muslims, one of their nations, etc.

Every time any REAL muslim terrorist act has taken place, those responsible took credit and said exactly why they did what they did. Luckily those actions are rare, since radical muslim extremists are very, very few, and most are in custody in pretty much every nation BUT the US. It appears that the US isn't very good at catching terrorists.... a very strange thing.

In the case of 911, no one ever took credit for it, but everyone with a brain knows the PNAC hired the 911 hijackers.

To date, even OBL is not even accused of 911 by the FBI or anyone else, and he certainly didn't admit it in any interview, that's for sure.

Radical extremists don't attack without provocation. They're not wild eyed mad-men. They're political activists who go to extremes, but they never act without a motive.

I've only just returned to Illi-noise, I know the NCAA declared him persona non grata? Whats the buzz down there?

10. Ugh, the Chief follows me even into DU
JK. :P

I think the university submitted another appeal to the NCAA regarding the Chief. The Board of Trustees has been absolutely pathetic on the issue of the Chief - they refuse to take a position on the Chief and keep deferring their "official decision" for another year, whereupon they make ANOTHER non-decision. It's pretty pathetic.

Student and alumni opinion is pretty solidly in favor of the Chief, but there's a segment of the student population, and I'd say a majority of the faculty who oppose the Chief. The controversy will continue as long as the Chief exists, and the BOT is afraid to make a decision because they know it will basically eliminate a good deal of the alumni support they get now.

As for me, I am officially a member of the "I don't give a shit about the Chief" club. I think it's an incredibly stupid thing to divide the campus over, and I think everyone just needs to realize that the Chief is going to go sooner or later. I don't really buy the whole "the Chief is racist" arguments, especially when there exist far more racist Indian mascots - who is protesting the Washington REDSKINS? - but the crap will continue until the Chief retires, which will then inflame all of the alumni.

As much as I resent the NCAA sticking its nose into the university's autonomy, it might end up being a good thing, forcing the university to retire the Chief without taking the blame for it and angering all the alumni.

23. Hi Oscar
Chief Illiniwek is the mascot of the University of Illinois where I go to school, and there's a big controversy over it, detailed in my post. Welcome to DU!

I have heard that that book is absolutely heartbreaking.

27. Heartbreaking it is,over and over again.Thank you for your response.
I am not an American Indian. I did grow up in an area where I met many of them. I made friends and enemies with different ones. They make good friends and combative enemies. I was always picked up while hitchhiking home while on leave and wearing my uniform quickly when crossing their reservations. I was always treated kindly and had a good time traveling with them. They treated me like one of them. What can I say? ...Oscar

25. Slate Magazine posted an article today about resignations Re: this issue
You will have to go to Slate Magazine to get the details as I can not recall them accurately. Some significant people resigned in protest to their publisher`s refusal to publish what they had to say about these cartoons and the Islamic response and on and on. Oscar

26. The Islamic response?
Muslims are hardly a monolithic group. There isn't a top down organization dictating opinion to the masses but rather two main sects and many many scholars whose opinions are influential. There's a great deal of diversity of opinion and interpretation within Islam (as with most religions) and any media outlet that doesn't reflect that reality is feeding you a pile of shit.

28. I only wish Obama had made better use of his time in Iraq
All politicians trips to Iraq/Afghanistan are really worthless. How much groundtruth do they expect to get, when they get huge military escorts, 2 or 3 quick days on the ground where some Major or Light Colonel blows smoke up their ass, a spit and polish Captain gives them a brief about the new irrigation system installed and they eat the best "food" KBR has to offer, stay in the heavily fortified, air conditioned, plush Green Zone?

Any politican worth his salt would sneak away and meet with a bunch of the lower level noncoms to get the real feel for what's going on...

30. Then stop acting like the German Nazis offering up lies & propaganda about
an entire culture.

Muslims aren't terrorists.

Your bush is the worst terrorist on the planet.

The people being intimidated, put down, murdered, tortured and destroyed are the muslims.

You need to pay more attention to the truth than to the liars.
