Have you ever eaten a tangelo?
I don't know where I've been. I just discovered them a couple of weeks ago, and I have to have three a day ever since.

Tangelos are the most delicious fruit I've ever eaten. I just read that the tangelo originated as an accidental cross between a grapefruit and a tangerine.

If you've never had one, you must try one. Just delicious!

What's your favorite, addictive fruit?

14. Check your supermarket...
they are on the shelves right now, as this is when they ripen.

You won't regret it...you can get a bag of about a dozen for $2. :hi:

7. Is it a mineola or an orlando tangelo tree?
I'm thinking about buying a couple of trees--that's how much I love these things.

Can you give me advice on where to buy one? You can PM me, if you wish.

32. I have a minneola tangelo in the back yard.

Like you, I planted it because I like the fruit. I bought the tree at Builder's Square, I don't think they're in business any more. The tree is about ten years old now. It took about six years before it produced any fruit. Right now it's about ten feet by ten feet. It's doing great without any special care required.

4. I'm from Washington State, so of course my favorite fruit is the apple.
I like figs, too; dried figs. It's not that they're addictive as such, but they keep things moving along, so to speak. B-)

I don't know what I'll do when tangelo season is over...which will be at the end of this month, if the website I read is correct. :(

10. WHAT????? Will they kill someone on synthroid?
I had no idea they were a grapefruit hybrid. I thought they were orange/tangerine.

I'm off to google.

Here's a link on their origins. http://pas.byu.edu/pas100/tangelo.htm

Accidentally hybridized in Jamaica, from what another webpage said.

37. Are synthroid and grapefruit a bad combo?
I've been on it for 15 years I should know this I guess. I rarely eat grapefruit, I do love me a greyhound every once in a while.

41. well, I thought so
both my mother and my husband are on synthroid and were told separately, by doctors years and mile apart, that they shouldn't have grapefruit or grapefruit juice because of it.

However, I tried googling it yesterday to see if tangelos would be a problem, and, it didn't look like anyone else thinks grapefruit and synthroid are a bad combination.

15. Tangelos are really, really good.
I tend to go on fruit binges. I don't know if I have vitamin deficiencies or what, but I go through phases where I'll eat tons of pineapples, or mangoes, or when I can get them, passion fruit.

The old standbys are apples and bananas, of course. And I love kiwi fruit.

17. That's exactly how I am...
My binges are always citrus fruit. When nothing else is available, I'll buy carton after carton of Florida Natural Grapefruit Juice...and I can drink a carton in two days.

It comes and goes...right now, I just can't get enough tangelos. I gave MMjr. one to taste, and now he's letting the tangerines rot and fighting me for the tangelos.

I've never tasted a more delicious fruit in my life. I swear, I have truly discovered the nectar of the gods. :D

21. The only salvation...
is that tangelos are very inexpensive. Like I said somewhere else in this thread, I can buy a bag at the corner Pee Dub (Piggly Wiggly) for $2, and there are at least a dozen in the bag.

I don't know why I'm craving citrus--yes, it may be the subconscious telling me to have lots of Vit. C to protect myself from the flu and colds going around. :scared:

(An aside--you know, I lost all of my Nick's boudin during Katrina, and I haven't been back to restock since. I am CRAVING NICK'S boudin and have since the hurricane! ;-) )

We're not going to make it to Port Arthur this trip, though I may be going down in March, when we'll have more time to go down and visit both of Neil's grandmothers. And get some boudin at Nick's. :D

I'm less than 48 hours away from red velvet cake! :9

I don't eat them often because the skin is like nails on a chalkboard.

But canned peaches . . . :9

It's very difficult for me to pick just one fruit because I love eating fresh fruit. If I must choose - it would be strawberries.

31. Please let me know how you like them!
You can buy them either in bags or loose. Let me know if you like them. Another good thing about them, besides that they're just delicious, is that they are mostly seedless. I guess I've eaten 30 of them since I discovered them several weeks ago, and I've only encountered three or four seeds.

Easy to peel, too! :hi:

I will look for the loose fruit, since I prefer picking things out myself...

And then I can also get the exact number I want!

Oooh seedless! That's a biggie with me!

You've had THIRTY over the last several weeks? Well....I guess you won't need to worry about bladder infections... All that acid! The bugs won't like it!
