You know.... I watched the opening ceremony......
Why did they have to focus on the American Athletic every time something happened on stage....

So we could see the event through their eyes.....

I mean it was just so.....

Crass.....

I guess it was NBC trying to put a face with the names to help boost ratings...

Truly in the spirit of the games....

I jusat get all antsy when I see stuff that is too nationalisitic... It's scarry when you have people in power who would exploit that feeling of national pride for their own ends...

11. That was wierd.....
Sylvia Pajolie was on NPR describing the ceremony... She was laughing about that.... And also said the snow ball people reminded her of the sperm in Woody Allen's movie Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex.....

She dropped her line and the last word she said was Shit.....

13. Because it's NBC coverage
I'm guessing (or at least hoping) that most of the other countries had their own coverage of the games and focused on their own athletes. Seeing the ceremony through the eyes of the U.S. athletes is fine with me. It also makes business sense for NBC-- you have to see Bodie Miller to keep Nike happy.

Now about the disco music.... That I can't understand. Even one of the U.S. announcers joked that we had to be running out of disco songs and thanked everyone for not doing the "YMCA".

16. That's a big reason why I won't watch the Olympics
I can't fucking stand that "USA! USA! USA!" stuff. The Olympics is not supposed to be all about the United States of America. It's supposed to be about athletes from nations around the world competing in the Olympics. Not solely about how American athletes think or feel or see. Couple that with the Bush regime and its "the United States is the biggest, baddest motherfucker on the block and don't you punks forget it! shit and seeing even anything close to that at the Olympics is, well, nauseating.

17. Here's an idea: WE LIVE IN THE UNITED STATES!!
I mean, if we were watching from Chile I'm sure we'd be seeing the Chilean atheletes all the time just like if we lived in Germany we'd see the German or if we lived in Australia we'd see the Australian.

I mean, I agree with you too that I would love to have seen more of the ceremony itself then shots at team USA but hell I'm watching it on NBC what the hell did I expect to see?

Gabriel got the nod to do "Imagine" because of his Amnesty International work...I would've gone for Bocelli..but he'll, no doubt, be the "Closer" in 2 weeks!...it was creative, very eclectic, and surreal as well it should be. The Maestro Pavarotti-well, nothing to add, there.

BUT THERE WERE WOMEN EVERY-WHERE ! Excellent !:woohoo:

24. CBC coverage is different
They show as many countries as possible and tone down the nationalistic material. CBC's broadcast is mostly the events straight up showing the truly global parts of the olympics.
