@$#%&! bogus "War of the Worlds" DVD! |
|
When Spielberg's "War of the Worlds" came out, I was boycotting Tom Cruise so I abstained. But now I want to see it, so I rented the DVD from Blockbuster.
The first scene we're wondering "Who's that skinny guy playing the astronomer? He looks familiar." A quick check of the back of the DVD case, and it turns out to be none other than an aging C. Thomas Howell, 80's teen flick star.
As the movie goes on, I start wondering, when is Tom Cruise going to show up? Where's Dakota Fanning? And I'm thinking "Why, this seems just like a cheesy Sci-Fi Channel flick." Finally I realize: This IS a cheesy Sci-Fi Channel flick!
It wasn't Spielberg's "War of the Worlds," it was a made for TV B-movie starring C. Thomas Howell. Blockbuster had VERY CLEVERLY covered up Howell's name on the cover with their stickers to trick some unsuspecting victim into renting it.
I was duped. :banghead: Don't let this happen to you.

1. Blockbuster ALWAYS drag out the old/other versions of big movies |
|
just before the DVD is available. King Kong ( original ) was entirely re-packaged so you'd never even think it was the old black and white version.
Renter beware

2. They usually have a section devoted to that |
|
where all the original versions of the new remakes that are in the theaters are on display. That's sad that they actually can fill up a section of remakes and sequels. Just shows you how unoriginal Hollywood is now.

The fact that it was a C. Thomas Howell movie just adds insult to injury.
