Great new streaming radio: Wolfgang's Vault
Vault Radio is streaming on the internet. This is the best radio I've heard in decades.
http://www.wolfgangsvault.com/
From the web site"

About our Vintage and Retro Tees
Bill Graham and his concert promotion company, Bill Graham Presents, produced more than 35,000 concerts all over the world. His first venue, the legendary Fillmore Auditorium, was home to many of rock's greatest performers - Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Doors, The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Prince - and the list goes on and on.

Graham taped thousands of live performances and stored the tapes in the basement of the BGP headquarters.

These tapes and the concerts they captured lay dormant until the Bill Graham archive was acquired by Wolfgang's Vault (Bill Graham's given first name was Wolfgang) in 2003.

Vault Radio is now playing selected tracks from these concerts in an FM-quality, 128K digital radio stream. Songs will be added to and removed from the radio show on a regular basis. We will be broadcasting unaltered live performance music from many of the greatest bands of the last 40 years. The music you hear on Vault Radio has not been sweetened or polished. You'll be listening to what the band played that night - nothing more, nothing less.

This is the real thing and we hope you enjoy it. If you like the music or would like us to add other bands to the playlist, let us know through Feedback.

Cheers!

2. I heard it on NPR this morning. I guess it's good I can't sleep late.
They interviewed the guy who bought the archives and started the station. They sell vintage posters and shirts and stuff, too.

Only living drummers here!
I heard Springsteen's "Blinded by the Light" earlier today. Beats the shit out of Manfred Mann.

Seriesly.
At the risk of sounding like a fogey, they just don't make music like this any more.

11. I believe it was Graham. Best promoter ever.
He knew exactly what he was doing. He owned the rights to most of the performances.

17. Holy crap. CHICAGO was like that?
All I knew about was mushy-saccharine Chicago. Keep thinking it must be another band with the same name but no -- Peter Cetera's voice is there. Wow.

35. Trivia
They were only The Chicago Transit Authority for the first double album - the REAL CTA in Chicago sued them and made them drop the name.

37. I used to have it on vinyl
I used to collect vinyl LP's, but got tired of lugging box after box after box (I had almost 5,000) around.

Around 1,000 45's as well.

Now, I have all the old stuff on CD, but kept about 300-400 collectable LP's.

Of course, I kept the Beatles picture sleeves as well... :)

18. Even better is if you were there!
If this stuff is from BOTH Fillmores (East and West) then I'll have to rack my fading memory as to what shows I went to. Never got to the Fillmore West, but went to the Fillmore East a bunch of times.

Edit: There is a GREAT book out called "Live At The Fillmore East: A Photographic Memoir" by Amalie Rothschild - amazing photos from the concerts there. I found it in the bargain section of Barnes and Noble.

Best part - there is a listing in the back of ALL the concert dates/performers at the Fillmore East. I actually remember going to a few. Some, maybe not... :)
