I killed a deer last night. |

:(
I am so upset. I cried. It was on the way home from the bar. Didn't matter that I had some drink in me, I never saw the poor thing coming.
I went back to the spot this morning and the deer was tagged and laying on the side of the road. I cried.
Damage to the car is about $4,000!
But the good news---Instead of paying for the damages and the brakes, tires and back bumper that I needed prior to the accident------
I GOT A NEW CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :bounce: :bounce:
A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA Navy Blue. It's freaking SWEET! :bounce:
That is all. :hi:

1. As long as you're ok...that's the important thing |
|
That's horrible about the deer. But the main thing is that you're ok...you could have been injured.
And if you get a new car out of it...that's the icing on the cake/ :-)

I would have been the same...just devastated about it. Deer are such gentle, beautiful animals.

4. Yes, they are beautiful |

this deer was a little baby, I think. It looked smaller. Our neighbor hit a tree last year and her car was a lot more messed up than mine was.

Did you call someone about the deer to get him/her cleared off the road?

that was frantically scurrying to get out of my way. I always say aum on any carcasses I come across. Seems to release them. You can do this in memory if the deer is gone.
Since it was an accident, we can only assume that some karma was being played out and is now resolved. My thoughts only, not dogma.
Congrats on the car.

8. Be Thankful You Didn't Hit More Than One |
|
Nine times out of ten, deer rove around in groups. As bad as it was, it could have been much worse. Glad you came out of it alright.....

11. Less people hunting, better habitat (suburban buffet)=too many |
|
Those things seem to be thriving in the suburbs these days. I am glad you weren't hurt in the encounter. A few years back I came upon a deer/car collision. The deer was in a ditch with a compound leg fracture. I carry a shotgun in my truck so I put it down as humanely as possible. (He didn't see me approach and died quickly) When the deputy arrived he got jazzed up about someone shooting the critter. I asked him if he would have had rather let the deer die a slow death. He saw my point. I got to take the guy home and my dogs had a very good couple of months eating venison.

the cops came and shot it. It was struggling for life. It was better off getting shot.
The deer are all over where I live. I see them all the time, all hours of the day.

16. I've never hit a deer |
|
But when I was driving back to Corpus Christi from College Station (about 250 miles) I saw literally hundreds of deer by the side of the roads. Scared me half to death.
I did hit a (wild) pig once. Punctured my tire but because I saw it first and was driving pretty slow at the time it didn't do any other damage. I don't know what happened to the pig. I assume it died.

The sun wasn't up yet. Both those things contributed.

21. A rabbit hit my windshield once! |
|
There was a large hawk that had just killed a rabbit in the middle of the road. He saw my truck coming and tried to take off with the kill. When he realized he wasn't going to make it he dropped the rabbit and dropped a poop (on my hood), barely cleared the cab. The rabbit didn't do any damage but I did have to remove it from the wiper area of the hood.

23. That happened to us once |
|
The poor thing had both its legs broken and kept trying to run back into the road.
We had to call the police to come take care of it. I bawled. I still have nightmares about that occasionally.
But at least you got a new car. :hi:

But I hit a buck and it totalled out the car. A 1990 Escort. My situation was different-either get hit by the full-size truck that had swerved into my lane at midnight or swerve to the side of the road. I chose to cut to the side w/o slowing down and a buck came out at the same time. For some reason I did remember the truck's license plate. An officer came out and picked me up(I was dispatching for that department at the time). We ran the plates, found out the truck's driver lived in the next county(was enroute home) and notified the department there about the truck(since he was carelessly driving). Turns out his BAC was 3x the legal limit. I was informed that a truck that size compared to my car, if it had hit me head-on, would have probably killed me. Sorry the deer died but my kid needed a mom more.
