Olympics webcast
Hey, been a few years since I've posted. Either 'sorry' or 'youre welcome'.

Okay, I'm stuck at work for 18 hours and I'd like to listen to the olympics online. Does anyone know of a web broadcast of the games?

I'm truly desperate.

/gkd

And welcome back to DU! I remember you and it has been awhile! Don't be a stranger...:hi:

but dont wake anyone up, im not THAT desperate.

Thanks for the welcom back. I lurk regularly, but my work schedule doesnt afford me a lot of posting time, and other than days like today, work is more fun than posting, usually.

4. I've been trying to wake him up anyway, LOL!
And he said it's on MSNBC. I checked and here's the link. It's about halfway down on the right...:D

And it's great to see you back! You must have a pretty great job, if it's more fun than posting on DU!:eyes:

6. You're welcome.
And thanks for the additional excuse for waking him up, not that it lasted long. He recorded "The Simpsons," and I don't know how to turn it off. This is at least the third or fourth time I've been forced to sit through the same episode...

But I guess that I'm not missing anything, if the curling coverage isn't live...

Enjoy!:toast:

7. The Simpsons.
Matt Groening and I graduated from the same college. I work there part time now.

funny, in a cosmically insignificant way I guess.

8. Wow! That is quite a coincidence! I'm impressed!

What college? It's a great show, but I can recite all the lines in this episode, by now...:eyes:

on edit: I have a much less impressive coincidence. My previous job was writing about what was on TV, for the newspapers, and "The Simpsons" was one of my shows. So if you ever looked in your local newspaper to see what "The Simpsons" was about, that week, those words were probably mine...

The great liberal academic fortress of The Evergreen State College. Not at the same time, though.

A great school for creative, self-motovated learners but not the right place for uptight, overstructured pattern-recognizing paper shufflers.

However, I do not draw cartoons well.

**EDIT: the spelling error...oh! you can edit titles now! DU upgrades! I like it! Nevermind

10. I went to one of those colleges, as well.
Progressive and for the self-motivated. We didn't even get grades, which caused a lot of people problems when they went to apply to graduate school. But it only lasted for ten years, so can't think of anybody famous who graduated from there. My boarding school was a different story. They like to boast about Natalie Cole and David Hartman (the host of GMA, years ago), but they neglect to mention William "Cujo" Wolfe, SLA kidnapper of Patty Hearst, LOL! And I didn't cross paths with any of them, either.:-)

11. you went to
college of the atlantic or something?

I understand they're nearly identical to evergreen's framework: progressive, planning units rather than departments, narrative evaluations in lieu of grades, etc.

I really thought I was going to have a lot of trouble getting work after graduation given that I had attended such a 'fringe' college. Luck was on my side this time. Luckily.

12. I went to Kirkland College, Clinton, NY
It was for women, started by Hamilton College, a college for men which dated from the 1700s. We could take courses at either school, since the campuses were adjacent and we shared a lot of facilities. But the disparate educational philosophies didn't work well together and it was a rough time for schools, financially. They didn't have much luck raising money from alumnae, since nobody was even 30. I've often wondered if Hamilton planned this, since there was a lot of opposition to admitting women from the all-male alumni. Now it's all one school...:-(

14. Oh, BTW
In case of STOP button failure on the Simpson's tape, try a stiff tug on the power cord.

Thats what we do when an unruly instrument is acting up.

I've turned off the TV, on the TV, but it doesn't shut off the sound... He's showed me what button to press, but there are at least six remotes, and I can never remember which one corresponds to what...

on edit: He did wake up long enough to get rid of "The Simpsons," so I caught a little of the Olympics, pairs figure skating and the luge. I'm particularly fond of the luge and the bobsled. To me, those are the most exciting events, and they also look like fun...:bounce:
