'tis done! Income tax return
Used TurboTax on the web. Have been using them for five years now, so they already have most of the personal info. Even managed to download W-2 info so had to enter very few items. Delete one employer..

It took me several hours this evening but I am glad that it is done! Yes, of course we donate $3.00 to the Presidential elections!

Already e-filed them. I am glad that this is over!

4. Really? Minnesota also allows one to assign $5.00 by each of us
but we have an opportunity to select the party. I do hope the DFL gets our $10.00. So we declare our party affiliation online? No problem!!

Funny thing about TurboTax. We do have refunds this year.. too much. Ideally one should be close to zero balance. Anyway, TurboTax "offered" to deduct the service fee - $45.00 for both returns - from our Federal refund and charge us $29.95! Are they crazy? All along they offer hints on how to save on taxes and now they think that I will pay extra for them to deduct their fees from the refund?

No, I charged our debit card for their services. BTW, I think that their charges go up on March 1st.

7. Your CPA was full of it. From the FEC:
http://www.fec.gov/info/checkoff.htm

What Happens to My Three Dollars?

When you check "yes," three of your tax dollars are placed in the Presidential Election Campaign Fund. During each of the last five years, approximately 33 million taxpayers have checked the "yes" box. Every four years, the federal government distributes dollars from the Fund (sometimes called public funds or federal funds) to qualified Presidential candidates and national party committees for use in the Presidential elections. Whatever money is left over at the end of the Presidential election remains in the fund and is used in the next election, four years later.

Who Receives the Checkoff Dollars?

Presidential Nominees in the General Election. The Republican and Democratic nominees in the general election receive a fixed amount of checkoff dollars. Nominees from other political parties may qualify for a smaller, proportionate amount of checkoff funds if they receive over five percent of the vote.

Of course, candidates can (and do) refuse to take the money because then they are stuck with a lot of limits.

6. Good for you!
We were for 2004 but did not work for 2005, when I lost my job. Too much refund.

Will try better for 2006.

8. Done, but may have to re-file
As I was putting together my paperwork, I found two W-2's from one employer ... with different income amounts! Nuts.

Heck with it - I filed the one that matched my last stub (glad I keep those stupid things) and sent the e-file.

9. Lucky
I'm still waiting for my W2 forms from my last job. They sent it to me old address so no it has to be forwarded back to me. Normally I wouldn't look forward to doing my taxes but I'm expecting a pretty nice refund :D.

10. Figured mine out last week and thanks to the AMT I owe $800+!!!!

Grrrr! I'm waiting until April 15th to file. I hate to think of sending another dime to the debacle in Iraq! What a joke. My own school in my town has to cut $1.3 million from the budget next year--goodbye all AP classes, 10 sports (girls and boys for most: tennis, soccer, hockey, swimming, golf (boys), dance team (girls)) teacher aides, 10 teachers, all clubs/extra-curricular activities, Honors Society, etc, etc. etc!!!.. I WANT MY MONEY TO GO TO SOMETHING IMPORTANT and NOT IRAQ! Sorry. It's very hard right now to be a "good citizen and follow the law."
