The RetroLounge Daily Poem Thread (Sun 2/12/06)
Edited on Sun Feb-12-06 08:09 AM by RetroLounge
Memory

Memory is not in the head
only. It's midnight,
you existed once, you exist

again, my skin
sensitive as an eye

imprint of you
glowing against me,
burnt-out match in a dark room.

Margaret Atwood

1. A Canadian choice
That's such a strong image.

2. In honor of a poem thread, I present.....
...The Extras. I should have saved this one for Floog...

The Extras

In every production on earth, from earliest times on,
In Aeschylus, Shakespeare, in films and on stage,
Appear midst the deafening action, the silent ones,
The extras.

They have no names, have no real characters,
But are dignified as they walk across the stage,
They are not for Hamlet, but of course
Are not for the usurper king either.

No one knows their names
Or what they ever thought, the extras,
But after the play, for their silence,
They always take care to go and pick up their cheques.

Rudolf Marku

4. actors and dancers -- once they reach a kind of
esoteric level of study -- are trained to believe that the body has both a memory and a language.

5. My body definitely has a Memory.
and my dreams were in full force last night...

Sense memory, I think they call it.

6. At least your sense memory
is recalling something pleasurable.

I've actually thrown up describing something, because I could recall how awful it was.

8. sense memory is indeed the term.
however -- it need not be a thing with which we torture ourselves -- it can be a tool.

uncontrolled -- it is not perse -- sense memory in the sense that it can be used.

read stanislovsky, michael chekov, uta hagen, what's his name -- the founder of the actor's studio -- i'm guessing you're probably familiar with some of these writers.

Not quite the same, but most woman I know who've had a kid get phantom kicks.
