Experienced Airline Travelers --- My Flight Was Canceled -- Now What? |
|
As I write this email, I am scheduled to be on an airplane from DFW to DCI (Washington, DC). The good news is that I am home and I am not stuck on the road. However, my American Airlines flight was canceled due to weather. I have a few questions for experienced travelers.
Is it true that I can not expect a reimbursement for my flight from American Airlines?
I am waiting to hear from my program director about whether the meeting is postponed or canceled. If the meeting is postponed by 24 or 48 hours, can I expect to American Airlines to find a flight, or give me some other kind of compensation for a later flight?
I just want to have reasonable expectations when I take this up with the airline.
Thanks for your help.
Take care.

1. They need to provide another flight for you |
|
If the trip is no longer required - then they should refund you. They did not provide the service you paid for.

2. I do not travel much, but when I do we use American because they |

usually provide us excellent customer service. I would call and see what the procedure would be in this case. On our last flight out to CA, the flight was cancelled due to mechanical troubles with the plane. The ticketing agent was very helpful with booking us on another flight. We missed our connection in Chicago, but she managed to get us on a later flight...first class even. So, I would make the call. Good luck. I think you might have a pleasant experience. I have never had any problems with American. Mine came from Northwest. :hi:

3. I Travel About 2x per Year |

So I am not a complete newbie when it comes to flying. However, I have also had mostly uneventful trips. I once missed a flight (it was completely my fault) and American put me on standby for the next airplane for no charge. There was a seat open and I flew home with no problem. I have been a loyal customer since.
Today, I am still waiting to hear from the people I should be meeting with in DC about whether our meeting is postponed or cancelled. So --- I don't yet know what to ask for from American.
I am somewhat disappointed that I won't get ff miles for this. I have been slowly building my account. My wife will likely be finished breastfeeding by November and we were hoping that the kids could stay with grandparents while we traveled together to one of my professional conferences. Oh, well. I think I still have enough miles built for a substantial discount on her ticket.
