Favorite horror movie?
Personally, I rarely watch them, because I don't like that kind of thing, but I like Steven King's Christine.

4. Audition is really good...
Have you seen Miike's segment for the anthology film "Three... Extremes"? It's called "Box", and it ranks among the best horror I've ever seen. Definitely one of the best short films I've ever seen.

10. Did you hear about his "Masters of Horror" film for Showtime?
They've canned it, but it will be getting a DVD release through Anchor Bay (and I guess there's no hope the British censors will leave it as it is).

"I think it's amazing, but it's even hard for me to watch," said Mick Garris, the creator and executive producer of the series. "It's definitely the most disturbing film I've ever seen."

(...)

IDT Entertainment?s Anchor Bay Entertainment proudly announces the upcoming exclusive DVD release of Takashi Miike?s controversial film ?Imprint? from the critically acclaimed MASTERS OF HORROR anthology series.

Premiering on the Showtime cable network in October 2005 to critical and public acclaim, each MASTERS OF HORROR film stands alone as an exercise in terror, written and directed with complete artistic freedom by the genre?s leading practitioners.

MASTERS OF HORROR is the ultimate director-driven project. ?Imprint? is the only one from the thirteen episodes produced that will not air. ?Like all the films in this groundbreaking series,? says executive producer John W. Hyde, ?Imprint? was made with no restrictions whatsoever on the filmmaker and we are honored to be able to bring Miike?s unadulterated vision to the fans.?

Miike observed: ?To tell you the truth, I was not surprised to hear that ?Imprint? would not air. Through the experience of directing this episode, I have discovered that while humor can have its limits, fear has no limits. I could not suppress the volume of terror that this film conveys.?]

(...)

Anchor Bay Entertainment will release ?Imprint? on DVD in fall 2006. Anticipated bonus features include exclusive behind the scenes footage, trailers, stills and more. Kadokawa Herald Pictures in Tokyo, Japan is planning its world premiere and release soon thereafter.

3. Tough call...
I love a good horror film.

If forced to pick, I'd probably say Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, or The Shining.

Terrifying, and an amazing technical achievement considering it was made before the era of computer-aided effects.

25. Favorite? Probably "The Bad Seed"
This is an oldie from the 1950s but I like the better oldies. It's about an 8 year old girl in pigtails who seems to be the model child, well-mannered and sweet but who in reality is a cold-blooded psychotic monster. This is not an overtly violent movie but relies on heavy atmosphere, suspense and tension. The acting is superb and I think 3 Oscar nominations were distributed among the cast. It's been playing lately on cable movie channels maybe twice a week.

I also like "Night Of The Demon", another 1950s horror movie with very dark atmosphere about Satanism in England starring Dana Andrews.

I also like "Eyes Without A Face", "Les Diaboliques", and "Carnival Of Souls".

Among the newer horror movies of course The Ring, The Grudge, and there's one that I liked but I can't remember the title. It's about a group of young people who were marked from youth by creatures from another dimension and they have bad dreams about it, for which they seek psychiatric care. Then, one by one, they start disappearing. I remember a chilling scene at a swimming pool where one girl starts swimming but the lights go out and something starts stirring in the water. It was extremely creepy. And there's a scene in the film where the heroine of the story meets a little girl who is getting the same psychiatric care for her bad dreams. The little girl says that she also sees monsters who she thinks are eventually coming "to eat me". At the end, the heroine finds herself in the hospital and the wall opens up to another dimension where the monsters are waiting to get her and she can't get back. This film impressed me because it had nice suspense without that much overt horror, a quality I like in horror films. I actually liked Blair Witch Project for that same reason, although I think it's a film that only gets to you the first time you see it and after that loses its effect.
