1. I'm no computer bigot.
I used to be a Mac user, when I was doing lots of design work, and I think that's a lovely Mac. I especially love that the CD/DVD drive is in the front. The CD/DVD drive on my new laptop is on the left side, which seems cumbersome.

When I was using a Mac, I never had any of the problems I've heard others complaining about.

3. Yeah, the part in the other
thread about things disappearing...that's where I stopped reading.....it's so not true...

I would guess the reason things disappeared for that guy is because that user had never even gotten
that far with his PC software downloads and passed out out in shock and surprise.

2. Uhm, "MAC" is a networking term. "Mac" is a computer.
Pardon my pedantic tendencies.

MAC

5. And?

I have Windows 2000 servers that have been up and running for 3 years straight, 24/7, crash free, only having been rebooted when installing new hardware such as additional hard drives and RAM.

My personal computer (which I built myself and can work on myself with no need to rely on Mac service to provide replacement parts) has been functioning error free (other than a hard drive failure caused by shoddy Maxtor products, not related to the OS or platform in any way) for nearly 3 years.

Not exactly a valid argument for "MACs." ANY computer properly maintained will run error and crash free. It's that simple.

6. Thank you ET. The thing is, both systems have their up and down
sides. I'm sick of the Mac snobs and the PC snobs. Different strokes for different folks.

13. Yeah
My computer has always run perfectly. I had a 300mhz AMD running handling way more than it should have with NO problems for a long long time.

I've had some problems with this computer recently, which I've now fixed. The RAM was buggered, and the hard drive was very old and needed replacement (Like, VERY old, ancient). I just slapped in a new one, ran some new cables just to be safe, plunked in some spare ram, and it's running like a beauty. 2k+proper maintenance=perfect operation in my experience.

7. "Macs", a MAC is "Media Access Control".
BTW: OS X (aka OX) is based on FreeBSD; Apple MOOCHED off of a lot of volunteer work. Buncha friggin' pigs.

10. QUOTE:
There are lots of advantages to using a Mac, most of which Mac users already know about. They're better built, better designed. They last longer. They rarely fall prey to viruses.

But perhaps the biggest advantage is one that's rarely acknowledged: You get to join a highly creative, knowledgeable and supportive community.

Mac users can be extremely cool. It's a lifestyle thing. Mac users tend to be liberal, free-thinking, counterculture. They dress well, look good and have discerning taste (in Burnet Texas, anyway). Take a Mac out in public and people want to look at it. Mac users have a sense of humor.

14. The snobbery mixed with naivety is astounding.

* "Rarely fall prey to viruses". Bull. Macs aren't financially viable yet. Once Macs start looking appealing; more viruses will be made. And while they're more difficult to spread, that isn't as needed as the idiot who runs the program in the first place.

* "You get to join a highly creative, knowledgeable and supportive community." I prefer to let OTHERS tell me I'm creative, knowledgeable, and supportive. Anything else is spurious.

* "They last longer"? In bed? Why can't OS X be installed on pre-G4 machines?

* "Better designed". Tell that to every sucka who bought the new Macs with the white line problem. Never mind Apple has switched to Intel and saying how much faster it is when just a year ago, Apple was hyping up how their CPU was much faster than Intel's... and never mind their OS was mooched from FreeBSD. Seems somebody else did the bulk of the work for Apple and never realized it. And yet prices have yet to go down. WHY.

Sorry for thinking different.

It can. I have a 500 MHz G3-powered iMac DVSE with OS X on it and it runs just fine. Just a friendly FYI. :)

17. I love Macs. But I do wonder...
why some people get wound up about what kind of computer other people use, or why they like or don't like it. I love Macs because in the nearly 20 years I've used them I've had almost no trouble at all, either with the hardware or the software. I find them easy to use and they suit my needs. I have to use a PC at work and I don't like it nearly as well.

That said, if you prefer PCs and they suit your needs, fine. But I'm neither stupid nor snobby nor otherwise defective because I find Macs work well for me. You are also not stupid or snobby or defective if you find PCs work better for you. Buy and use what you like. It's all good.

20. Amen to that! I use a Mac because I'm a graphic designer
and it's all I've used for years. My husband is a software engineer and uses a pc. Both have advantages and disadvantages. But who the hell cares, really?

I personally tend to think Macs are more fun to use, and I'm definitely not a fan of anything as monopolizing as Microsoft. But either way, it's no skin off my nose what people want to use.

22. i feel the same, i love my mac but never feel the need to rip on Dell
users. My husband works for Apple so when the mac threads come up i always print out the comments for him, sometimes he laughs his ass off but other times he hangs onto to what he thinks are good ideas.

19. I was all about PCs until I started working for hampton city schools....
They are ALL MAC.
I had a PC but it got sick and died..... time to buy a new one.... I thought: why not go with what is compatible with machines at work?
And so I did..... boy am I glad I did!
I love the Mac environment.... and it's inability to avoid viruses.

And..... as some of the other posters have said.... I AM a bit of a snob.
so what?!?
