Not sure of the year, but probably around 1970. This isn't my car, but it looks like it:

The seats were so thin and uncomfortable that even when I was 18 years old I noticed it. Never got it to go faster than 95 (that was before we were such a neurotic society), because at that speed it started to vibrate like crazy. Sold it to my sister at around 90,000 miles, and she sold it to someone else at 130,000. It was nearly totaled when I got hit on the side by a truck that was going 5 mph, but my brother-in-law at the time was a mechanic, and he put it back together. It was a very distinctive car that I liked in part because so few others liked it.

9. 1976 Buick Skyhawk
Mine was a gorgeous shade of burgundy.

She had 127,000 on the clock when I got her in 1992, right before I went to college, and I drove her until 2000, when a rubber oil sending unit part dried out and couldn't be replaced. By then, she had not quite 300,000 miles, had suffered through a transmission replacement operation, having her tires slashed, her heater core melting down, an alternator, a water pump, getting sideswiped while parked by a drunk driver (no frame damage, and the rear quarter panel popped right back out...), having a child run out in front of us and thus we swerved to miss said kid and hitting a cinderblock wall at about 20 mph (wall fell over - no rebar. We had a couple of scratches on the bumper.), a timing chain operation, hitting a couch on the freeway...

I loved that car, not least because I could work on her. Not great in the snow, being rear wheel drive, but she got 27 MPG and had a top speed of about 130 mph. She could also carry all of the equipment for two people for a real medieval encampment.

15. Picture posting tard here
My first car was a 1961 Dodge Lancer (four-door, green Crayola crayon green).
The first car I put on the road legally was a 1964 Plymouth Belvedere (beige, also four-door). I bought it from my Grandmother G for $240 and it was a real hot rod. I still miss it today.
John
Pictures of either or both would be swell.
It is now 124 days, 19 hours and 46 minutes to FUNDAY.

Cost $300 in 1966, put dual corvair Turbo exhausts on it, a 327 4bbl cast iron manifold and AFB on it, and later on Pontiac 1.6 rockers for a bit more lift. Was a lot of fun for 3 years. It was the same turquoise color as this junkyard one.

My first car was a 1981(?) Renault 18i. I just googled it and still can't find a pic of my car, thats how popular it was here in the states. My best friend back then and I both owned Renaults, although his was an Alliance.

Edited on Sun Feb-12-06 07:16 PM by AZDemDist6
It would only start if you pushed it, I gave the guy $75 and grounded the battery to the block and she ran for 4 years, then the engine was put into a pickup and last I heard was still running 3 years after that. I spent $20 more at the "U Pick" junk yard to get some handles and knobs and door panels and off I went!

Had a 3 spd on the column that you had to rest your arm on in 3rd gear cuz the shifting forks were shot and I couldn't get parts (or afford to get on machined for me)

I loved that car
