This was around dawn, when it just got started:

4. This is nothing, actually
Last year, right during the inauguration, we got one twice as bad. Unlike our Southern brethren, we expect this stuff and our municipalities have invested in plows. :)

6. First of all, where are you?
Second, I'm from Fulton, New York. We laugh at your so-called snow. (although this year we haven't had any to speak of. We had a year's worth in December, green grass in January and very light snow so far in February. I'm expecting a four foot dump in early March. )

11. Lucky you!!
We just finished shoveling 16" out of our driveway, the old-fashioned way (no snowblower!)... man, am I gonna hurt tomorrow!

:hi: Joan, how's life?

16. Yep ~ Life Is Good ... when ya don't have to shovel 16" ...

I've made some real progress in completing renovations. My new wood stove has cut our oil consumption by a full 1/3.

To ward off cabin fever I'm planning an awesome summer: www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=105x4685195

:hi: How's the new home? Do you still love it? I'm sorry about the impending soreness. A hot soak right about now might help.

That's awesome about the wood stove, woo-hoo! :bounce:

The cross-country tour looks excellent... you will meet so many cool people and see so many things :) Cool! Let me know if you're going to make it in the CT vincinity, maybe we could have lunch or something!

Funny you should mention a hot soak.... http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=4667402&mesg_id=4667402

Actually, the tub is back in that spot and the drain is plumbed in, so we can run hot water through a hose from the laundry room for baths! Gotta love the old house stuff, I hear that  I took some ibuprofen, and I will take a good, hot bath before bed tonight!

I'm glad to hear things are going well for you, dude!

I grew up in the midwest, though. I remember snow like that. Don't miss it, despite its great beauty.

A sunny hello, from California! :hi:

13. Great photos, Will
We haven't had anything like this this year in the Detroit area (so far). My parents were supposed to get home from Israel today after going there after my brother died Jan. 31st, and they got stuck in Newark. At least they were able to get a hotel room and will be home tomorrow.

I'm so glad the KOEB New York trip is next weekend, not this one!

Nice pics. I think we got about 17" here in Andover. It only looks like a foot or so in the city. I can't wait to go cross country skiing!

29. To everyone wowed by the beauty of the snow scenes:
It doesn't stay like that for long. By tomorrow, the snow in the city areas will be all blackened/sooty from car exhaust, dirt, sanding, etc. Not to mention areas of yellow snow. And it will remain like that, getting uglier by the day, until it's gone. With parts of it icing up so it's treacherous to walk.

I'm currently snowed in outside Boston, with a foot-high snow drift on my front porch. Tomorrow will be cleaning off the car, hoping the guy that comes to shovel shows up (I physically can't do it myself), etc. Oh yeah, in case you haven't figured it out, I hate snow!

This was only the 3rd storm of the year for me here in NW NJ. I got about 14 in. It sucked however, because my parents flight home was canceled. :(
