So is regular Skateboarding a part of the Summer Olympics yet? |
|
I'm enjoying the Snowboarding halfpipe which really is nothing more than skateboarding except with snow instead of concreate.
If snowboarding is a part of the winter olympics shouldn't regular skateboarders have their chance to shine in the summer olympics?

1. I don't think so, but it won't be long, I don't think seeing as how |
|
mountainbiking is one now.
I agree (and I'm a mountainbiker and snowboarder who couldn't skate to save his life) that it should be. Definitely.

|
But honestly there are so many sports not in the olympics like Golf and Water-skiing and yet somehow Synchronized Swimming and Rhythm Gymnastics are!

2. I can't believe you said that. I was just saying that to my family watchin |
|
the snowboarding.
I like to "bother" my daughter so I was being all bitchy about the snowboarding how it's just show offy and not a sport. I said,"What's next? Skateboarding at the Summer Olympics?" All my daughter could come up with was, "Hockey Sucks..." (she's young yet) And then we were watching that Shawn Freckle face kid and I said,"He's going to fall..." and he did... Mother Mystique lives on. :hi:

;) She knows I'm just teasing her. We sat and watched the snowboarding all the time in the X games. I just like to "rock" her boat. I'm horrid aren't I? That's a cool video. :hi:

I know the spelling but at the age of 31 feel silly actually typing it out. And skaters can get older. They've gotta age eventually.

in case something that commerical actually did catch on. I know that, back in the day, the guys I ran around w/ would have beaten you over the head if you had said something like that. But, skateboarding is more mainstream than it used to be so...

I got into it just before the X-Games got big, so I basically lived through it's commercialization. Still bothers me, but what can you do?

Nice to see it more accepted than it used to be. I remember skaters getting their asses kicked on a regular basis by all the motorheads and the jocks. But the actual commercialization of it sucks!
Watching half pipe tonight or have they already shown it there? I know the results and am quite pleased but just like actually watching.

I rarely ever watch competitive stuff. Plus it's rare that my TV is ever tuned on anyway.
I prefer just watching them do what they do, not striving to win or anything, just having fun. I'm gonna be spending all week watching snowboard videos though, spending next weekend at the mountain.
And yeah, I can remember first when I started skating, people would constantly tear up our skate park and stuff. It sucked.

29. I'd love to get out and watch it more in person, |
|
just watch them have fun and no competition but I don't live close enough to a park or resort(nearest "resort" is 2 1/2 hours and not that great). I used to travel regularly to watch and participate but once you have children travel gets harder on you. And yes, skaters got their asses kicked on a routine basis back in the day(the 80's for me). No skate parks in my area back then and the cops constantly ran them off of public property for skating, calling it loitering.
And I envy you right now for you upcoming weekend. I'd love to take my daughter someday when I have the money!

But it kinda sucks. So it's a pretty big road trip. Should be fun.

If I still lived in the North I'd have all kinds of options but right now there is very little to choose from. Sounds like a great time. Hope you have fun and follow the rule-KEEP ALL DRINKING TO A MINIMUM WHILE SNOWBOARDING! I went snowboarding once and had to sit w/ a friend who got drunk at 8 am and then went snowboarding. He came out of that mess w/ a concussion.

And it's a good idea not to sneak a flask out w/ you either. Yes, it will keep you warm but it will also cause you to try stupid stunts you're not ready for and you'll look like shit when you do them.
