It's a great idea because I certainly donated more $ than I normally would have, and more than I can really afford, and it was a blast picking out recipients! Skinner should do something like this with every fundraiser.

I have to disagree with you about this heart deal.

Those of us who cannot afford to donate can't give a heart to those we care about, like showing up at Christmas emptied handed. :cry:

I do appreciate the heart given and I thank whoever it is that gave it to me, but I think I made a major mistake trying to come back to DU this evening.

Maybe next week.

Popularity contests sadden me. :(


Edited to add: This post is not mean as a request that someone donate in my name, that is not my intent. It is just the observation that this fund raiser will result in hurt feelings. Some may not get hearts and others cannot give hearts.

Too many hurt feelings on a normal day at DU, now we have a new feature to add to it. JMHO.

Not on if you're good-looking or thin or well-dressed or have a nice house or nice clothes or jewelry or are well-spoken or have a fancy job.

Just on if you're a good egg and hang around the DU Discussion boards!

I've only met one person here on DU in person, and that was via Bartcop. Other than that, I mostly know folks from good advice or recipes they've provided, cat care tips, shared opinions about music or TV or the Phillies or places to visit, and shared politics (of course). I don't know if they are young or old, disabled in any way, employed or unemployed, fat or thin, rich or poor, city or country, North or South and I don't care. I think that's super - not many other places where you can experience folks without all the superficialities.

We probably know more about you, Merh, than about most folks here on DU, because of your recent misfortunes (I always envision your poor little doggie in the elizabethan-collar thingy!)

I like having a way of telling folks "thanks for being here on DU". Wish I had more available funds to do so. We know your situation right now, so sit back and enjoy the love coming in, and be glad you didn't get blizzarded yesterday!
